I know that as well as you do, I worked in Army PR for a few years. Of course we always distinguished between the two. I was just pointing out that the media do it deliberately, even though it is incorrect and annoying. Maybe they do it because many people (eg. Bizzy) don't know the difference.
But yes, such a tragedy - it sounds like we lost an outstanding young officer who had so much potential. My first response to the news was to say "very sad but inevitable" to DH - I understood the situation in Afghanistan has been escalating for some time, and Bamiyan is no longer considered a 'safe' province, like it was. But that still doesn't mean his death is any less tragic ... and just the thought of Afghanistan and the situation there makes me so sad
