We live in perpetual summer I had Callum in one layer, long sleeves occasionally but his arms were long (despite his low weight) so it was mostly short sleeves or no sleeves at all. We never used a hat, but it's over 30 here most days.

At nights he was still in one layer plus swaddled. I used those cotton wraps that are a bit stretchy, not too hot but easier to wrap than a muslin I found.

Stoked that you found all those clothes of Gia's too!

Thanks for that, kiwisj!  I'm thinking I will just go on how hot I feel at night-time.  Usually I don't sleep with more than a sheet, if at all during the humid months.  And I remember the others being really hot babies, even though the boys were born in winter they still didn't seem to need much clothing before feeling too hot.  And I rarely used a hat for them, unless going outside.

Yes, I was estatic when I found Gia's baby clothes.  I did sell majority of them, but these were the ones I couldn't sell.  And there are some cute outfits that I was given which I was thinking I wished I still had - and I did!!

My babies:

R (9),G (7), J (5)

I have been wondering the same things, I don't even know what I am supposed to have on the bassinet for baby ie blankets and so on. Only have cotton and all the clothes I have are cotton for breathing....
We live in north Queensland where the temps have been pretty much over 30 since we arrived here in July and gets up to 40ish over summer so it is totally different to what I would have imagined to do in NZ!
We will also be using air con so in those situations do I cover baby up a bit more?? Presumably baby can get chilled from that!
Sigh....so hard!

Nat we use aircon in C's bedroom when he is asleep in there. It's usually about 25-26 deg in his room. He wears a cotton onsie (short sleeves) to bed and has a 1 tog sleeping bag (which is probably the equivalent of "summer weight" in NZ). I usually put a folded muslin over him as well but more so it feels like blankets and as a security thing rather than for warmth!

Before he went into the sleeping bag he wore the same onsies (just smaller lol) and was wrapped in his stretchy cotton wrap and then I put a cotton cell blanket over the top. When he was small enough for his moses basket the blanket was folded in half for a double layer but that was up to his due date (he was 8wks prem) so he needed the extra warmth coz he had NO fat rolls
