I'm having to start all over again when it comes to baby clothes.  I've sold majority of NB-1 clothing.  And I've never had a summer baby and can't for the life of me think of what a newborn would wear in summer!  How many layers etc.  Remembering I live in the Mount - not usually cold in summer

I have a few sets of bodysuits, a couple of AIO's and rompers.  I was waiting til I found out baby's sex before I went and bought anything else.  And I know girl's have cute little dresses, top and pant sets etc so would like to get some of those.

But can the ones that have had summer babies let me know their list of clothing items they had, and what was enough??  I don't want to go overboard with this being last baby (and famous last words too).  TIA!

You don't need much ... my DD2 basically lived in singlets and nappy over the summer (it was a hot summer though) and we had sooooo many clothes that didn't get worn...

Harry just lived in short sleeved onesies (born Jan 15). During the day he'd often be just in a nappy and wrapped in a muslin I loved having a summer baby, so easy! (and especially good with less washing if they're spilly)

As the others said...not much. James was mainly in short sleeved onsies or all in ones.....only one layer...but our summers are 30+.

It was night time that I found hardest. Swaddling him seemed so hot and I worried about over heating. James seemed to sleep just as well unwraped so I went to the summer weight go go bag and a light sheet over top.

I would definitely say I used way less clothes on James than I did on Tom but that could be second baby too.

Great, sounds easy.

I gathered she would only wear one layer, and when very newborn wrapped in a muslin wrap.  It will save heaps on the washing side of things - yay!

I can't believe how I've forgotten even after having 3 babies, how many clothes I'll need!  I feel like I'm really unprepared!

Did any of you use beanies at all?  Even for like after they're born?  Hospitals are always really warm anyway, so am thinking one won't be necessary??  What about for when you're out and about?

Hannah's a summer baby (Jan26th) and barely wore anything more than a nappy.
If we were going out and about I'd put her in short-sleeved onesies and cotton pants, but only cos I thought her modesty was important

We didn't puts hats on her, either.
The hopsital was lovely and warm and it was 30+ degrees when we took her home, so just had a muslin laid across her head while moving her from hosp - car - house

Awesome, sounds like I was needlessly stressing about not having enough!

Although, i've just been through what I do have and they are mainly sz NB, and my babies tend to grow fast and aren't in that size for long... but at least I should have enough to last for the first few weeks or so.

It was still quite warm when Jake came home (mid 20's) and he did need a beanie but he really struggled with temp changes and even in the hospital was swaddled plus 2 blankets on him plus booties and a beanie and his hospital gown.

I would have a hat or 2 JIC

I agree with the "one more than me" layer rule.
But in the heat of summer I know I'd love to be in no layers some days, but I don't think the public would appreciate it
So I go with the "one more layer than I'd rather be in " rule

Just as a side, my MW would not let my Nov baby leave the hospital without a wooly jersey and hat, so it might be worth packing them just in case!

What about at night? Do you still just put them in short sleeved onesies? I've bought a few cute all in ones (long sleeves/legs) so hopefully we have some cooler nights late November/December

Great thread as I was wondering the same thing.

my dec baby was in shortsleeved or singlets with muslin wraps from like 10am-4pm then would go into long ones over night with alightweight knit wrap. wasnt till late jan - he was in short ones day and night, but I guess it will just depend on how this summer goes. Oh and I hadnt even though of getting him an actual sunhat b4 he was born so I ended up getting him one the first time we went out

Yep I bought a sunhat just over the weekend actually!  This baby will be visiting the beach and park quite early, with having older children to entertain, although she will be in the pram with a sun cover on.

I was thinking of using the AIO's at night, and initially due to her waking to feed every few hours I can keep an eye on her temperture when I get up to her, to make sure she isn't too hot or cold, and she'll be sleeping in my room too.

Wow I'm soo stoked - I just found a couple of bags of baby girl clothes which I'd kept from Gia!!!  And she was born end of Oct (ekk she's coming up 4 in a few days!) so was wearing summery clothes as a baby.  Mainly sz 000, some 00 and some 0!  Awesome!  I think bubs will be set for the warmer months now!  Although they were all day clothing, cute little rompers.  So will still need a few more night-time suits.

Will save soo much though and I don't need to stress about not having enough now!

We live in perpetual summer I had Callum in one layer, long sleeves occasionally but his arms were long (despite his low weight) so it was mostly short sleeves or no sleeves at all. We never used a hat, but it's over 30 here most days.

At nights he was still in one layer plus swaddled. I used those cotton wraps that are a bit stretchy, not too hot but easier to wrap than a muslin I found.

Stoked that you found all those clothes of Gia's too!

Thanks for that, kiwisj!  I'm thinking I will just go on how hot I feel at night-time.  Usually I don't sleep with more than a sheet, if at all during the humid months.  And I remember the others being really hot babies, even though the boys were born in winter they still didn't seem to need much clothing before feeling too hot.  And I rarely used a hat for them, unless going outside.

Yes, I was estatic when I found Gia's baby clothes.  I did sell majority of them, but these were the ones I couldn't sell.  And there are some cute outfits that I was given which I was thinking I wished I still had - and I did!!

I have been wondering the same things, I don't even know what I am supposed to have on the bassinet for baby ie blankets and so on. Only have cotton and all the clothes I have are cotton for breathing....
We live in north Queensland where the temps have been pretty much over 30 since we arrived here in July and gets up to 40ish over summer so it is totally different to what I would have imagined to do in NZ!
We will also be using air con so in those situations do I cover baby up a bit more?? Presumably baby can get chilled from that!
Sigh....so hard!

Nat we use aircon in C's bedroom when he is asleep in there. It's usually about 25-26 deg in his room. He wears a cotton onsie (short sleeves) to bed and has a 1 tog sleeping bag (which is probably the equivalent of "summer weight" in NZ). I usually put a folded muslin over him as well but more so it feels like blankets and as a security thing rather than for warmth!

Before he went into the sleeping bag he wore the same onsies (just smaller lol) and was wrapped in his stretchy cotton wrap and then I put a cotton cell blanket over the top. When he was small enough for his moses basket the blanket was folded in half for a double layer but that was up to his due date (he was 8wks prem) so he needed the extra warmth coz he had NO fat rolls
