Hi all, is anyone else in the same position as I am with trying to conceive their first baby? My hubby and I married in November and have only just started trying, I was on the pill for 9 years prior to stopping in December. I had no idea about ovulation, charting, folic acid etc luckily my Dr prescribed me folic acid which I started taking in December and I am slowly educating myself on topics such as ovulation to try and conceive. Would love to hear from someone else who is trying for their first baby or anyone with advice they can share :) By the way I have signed up to Fertility Friend to chart everything and have purchased a BTT (Thermometer).

I'm in the same position. We have been trying for over a year now and have been referred to fertility associates as I have poly cystic ovaries and have irregular cycles. I thought it was because I'd been on the pill for 13 years but unfortunately not. I hope your stay here is short. Come and join us in the 2 week wait and the charting girls.

Hi everyone!

We're trying for our first this year too!
I've been off the pill since June and gave myself 6 months of eating well and preparing for pregnancy. I am in my late 30's so older than most first time mums and wanted to give myself the best possible chance of conceiving and sustaining the pregnancy.
I have been seeing a naturopath since August who has helped me with my diet and also been going for acupuncture sessions each week since the beginning of December.

Looking forward to the journey ahead - I hope we all are blessed with what we want this year!

Hi jellybean welcome to the forum! My husband and I are ttc our first too. I haven't tried temping but a lot of women have good results with it. We conceived last year with help only from fertility friends forecasted ovulation dates and that was from only putting in my Af dates and it was really stress free. The more methods you introduce the more stressful it gets in my opinion but we have to do what we have to do lol

Totally agree Kalika - I never temped because I knew it would just send me over the edge. I've tried OPK's and saliva scope in the past but I'm also lucky that I get obvious ov pain and have a pretty regular cycle so gave up on all that and just used ewcm and the pains as my tracking.

We got married October last year, and are trying to conceive our first. This is our first month of trying, currently 14DPO, I have a 32 cycle since having my IUD out. It used to be every 28 days, so not sure what happened there. We used the OPKs this month, and I also get cramping around ovulation. Using Fertility friend to track ovulation, so hopefully all this will work! Took an internet cheapie this morn, a BFN :( still holding on hope that AF doesnt arrive this week

How did you find the saliva scope? I'm really looking forward to trying one. I don't like the idea of temping mainly because it seems really unreliable, certain things can change your temps and it may not be ovulation. At least with the saliva scope (as long as you follow directions 100%) there should be no ambiguity. It is either ferning or ir isn't!

I tried the scope for a couple cycles but didn't really take to it that much. I've got other friends who've used it and think its great. Evidently none of that mattered for me because when you're guy has no sperm it ain't happening lol, tried all that stuff back when I was in the dark about our fertility issues.

babycrazy - that must be so hard for you, I suppose though now that you know you can try and overcome the problem

I was reading articles online last night and read that at age 27 your eggs start deteriorating in quality. How is that fair!? Obviously when our average lifespan was 50 this would have acceptable as women got married and had children in their late teens/early twenties but surely with evolution this should have righted itself? Must write a letter of complaint to somebody.. not sure who lol

Yeah kailika it is hard but I've been more focused on finding a solution. We're the donor list and just found out we're nearly at the top after about 4mths of waiting so its not too bad was just a long road to get to this point cos my DP fluffed around getting tested.

He seemed ok kailika. At first I thought we would get some via biopsy but turned out the odds were that low that he decided not to bother looking. It's taking some time for him to get his head around using a donor though and he probably wouldn't go through with it if it didn't mean so much to me.

The only advice I have for couples that are wanting to get pregnant within say a year is get your hubby tested first. Especially if you haven't been that careful in the past like us. I was on no birth control & we were using the withdrawal method for years before we married. It doesnt hurt them & its completely non invasive, at least then you will have a better idea where you stand. We found out about 2 years into our marriage that we had a 1% chance of natural conception. Hubby has a very low count & motility, had we known this earlier, we probably would have lined up for IVF sooner. Thankfully ours was bought forward from 15 months to 10. We were prepared to pay if it was 15 months no doubt. He would have nearly been 40 by then.

Agree supra. Considering it took me over a year from my first trip to the doctor to get him to do the test as it was and its only been about 6mths from initial diagnosis to nearly topping the list I wish we'd got that done earlier. But can't change that now can only share my experience with others.
All the best to you :)

My Husband & I got married in December and Jan is our first month trying.

I ovulated 5 - 6 days ago and for the past week i've had diarrhea - which in the past 2 days have turned into constipation, cramps, a little bit of nausea(just certain smells make me feel really ill) and itchy breasts.

Fingers crossed :) I have to wait another 10 days to test tho as I have 34 day cycles :( The wait is agonising

Hey everyone, guess I fit in here, although we've already been trying for most of 2011 and 2012 as well lol

Just at the first stages of getting some investigation done as to why nothing's happened yet (we're both 24) but still hoping that it's gonna just happen. I have suspected endometriosis but not bad enough to be on the public waiting list for surgery.

Went through a phase of charting  and everything but it just made me too obsessed. Showed clear ovulation each month so I pretty much know when we should be timing it.

Good luck to all you guys! Hope it doesn't take long

Hi Jellybean87 and others,

It feels strange to be on this forum at all - funny how things change so quickly. At the beginning of this year I had no idea what TTC or TWW or BDing was! My hub and I are now 2 months into TTC. I've only got one ovary + one tube so I am hoping it doesn't take too long + that my remaining vital organs are all working as they should. It's funny, I kind of thought it might happen straight away, so I've quickly descended into googling every little tweak or cramp. Expecting AF (haha another acronym) this weekend. I don't FEEL different at all this month + have none of the symptoms described by others. Ah well, another month will come around - and this time I might grab some ovulating tests to be sure I'm timing it right!

It's kind of nice that this forum exists - such a sweet community of women. Love + encouragement to all of you!
