Topic: Endometriosis and ttc Posted: 30 July 2008 at 8:12am |
Hi everyone,
I went in to have surgery on a painful ovarian cyst last week and it turns out I have endo. The cyst was from it as well as areas of scarring around area including a blocked right tube.
I'm so damn sore right now but also of course a little worried about weather we'll have a preg without IVF. The doc thought our best chance will be in the next few months. So just wondering who else is is a similar position and any suggestions you might have. I think I'll post this in the preg forum as well as it'd be interesting to see if anyone has managed to get preg with endo.
Thanks

Yay, thanks, that's really cool to hear! Was a little worried there was no point even trying as preg without ivf wasn't likely.

I have it and got pregnant both times quickly also.
I have had other friends who have also had no trouble. Try not to worry in the meantime.
Hope you feel better soon.

I have it as well, and have had my boys on the first month of trying so it does happen.

Hi Konagirl. I too have recently had surgery for removal of a cyst on my ovary and removal of endo. The cyst disappeared on its on accord (as they do ) and I ended up having the endo lasered off. I was very sore after surgery for at least two weeks, don't force yourself to get up and about too early. Today I had my follow up appointment with the Specialist and it turns out I am not ovulating (I only have the one ovary) so I will be starting Clomid in the up coming days.

Sorry to butt in on your thread Konagirl but Jezsika do you have any advice for someone just starting out on Clomid? I will also post in the infertility thread,

Hi girls, how did you find out you have endo and PCOS? Can anyone recommend a doctor or a specialist to go to to find out? I've always had irregular periods and am currently on CD55 with no signs of AF. I'm wondering whether I could have endo or PCOS? I've done 3 HPT, which have all been negative so it's not that.

Hi Konagirl
I'm having surgery for suspected lap on Tuesday. My surgeon told me that for women with endo pg rates double after surgery. He also told me to try for 6 months after the lap and then we could move onto IVF - and that given that I'm so young (27!) I could even try for 12 months if I wanted to. I think if there wasn't any hope of getting pg naturally after the surgery they wouldn't tell us to do it. He told me not to TTC for 1 month after surgery and then go for it because the 6-12 months after surgery is when you have the best chance of conceiving.

Hey there, I've got endo too. I just had my specialist appointment this week so am finding out if I can get it done privately and if not it will be public. For those of you that had laps down publicly how long did you have to wait?
We've been trying for 9 months so far. He mentioned possibly trying clomid if the surgery doesn't work. Glad to hear my chances double after surgery, now just to get it done!

Publicly I had to wait 4 months (that was in 2003) and privately it was 2 weeks.

Hey Chelle
I think it depends on where you are and who your specialist is. I'm in Christchurch and had my appointment with the surgeon on June 25 and the first surgery date he had available was 5th August (but he had just come back from holiday). AngieBabe is in Wellington I think and she has had to go public for hers and they told her it would probably take 6 months.

wow, that's quick emily, i'd jump on a plane and go to chch if it meant less of a wait but I guess it doesn't work that way.
Looking forward to hearing how it all goes later this week, good luck :)

Yep Emily is right - I'm in Welly's and have been told to expect a six month wait (I'm currently at about month two of that and still don't actually have a surgery date yet)... since I live Kapiti Coast I am actually going into Kenepuru for my surgery and have been told that's a slightly shorter wait than Wellington Hospital.
I was looking at private and after my specialist's appointment it would have been just a two week wait but insurance declined (the bastards!) so had to switch over to public. The wait for public really does depend on which DHB you're under though.
Edited for my very poor spelling!

Did the insurance decline because it was for fertility? Did you tell them that it was? I'm going to try for private too but I'm guessing they'll decline.

Well to be honest we knew it was a bit touch and go on actually getting them insurance to pay mainly because of the pre-existing condition thing.
Definitely DO NOT say it is for fertility issues, if you do it is my understanding you'll certainly get declined then. My specilist, while a fertility specialist, is also a Gynie so put it the correspondance on his private practice letterhead rather than his FA one - my problem was that Southern Cross requested my medical notes and they showed I had had an ultrasound prior to my signing up which showed a 'possible' cyst and that I had had painful periods for some time, so they deemed it all pre-existing and therefore declined my claim.
I'm frustrated mainly because with that initial scan nothing was conclusive or actually diagnosed but it appears 'pre-existing conditions' also covers 'early symptoms' so that was the out-clause loop-hole for them not to pay.

Hey Chelle
Sorry forgot to mention mine is private - that is why is was so quick. I was trying to point out that even if you go private it could be a couple of months before you acutally get the surgery.
and like Angie said don't mention that it's for fertility. My surgeon also said not to mention that I've had 'symptoms' since I was a teenager. Fortunately for me my pre-existings are covered anyway and I had my gall bladder removed through laparoscopy 3 years ago and they saw no sign of endo but he said he's seen the insurance companies looking for reasons to reject claims lately.
Also, I would say if you are going for pre-approval ring - don't use the online form. There were a lot more questions on the form than I got asked over the phone - maybe because they could see my policy and my history but on the form they asked when you first started having symptoms and when you first sought treatment but they didn't ask me those on the phone.
