I'm kind of hoping that when I go back to see the surgeon he says we don't have to wait until after the second op to TTC again, but I doubt it! So I'll be going back in November and it looks like we'll both be able to get back to TTC at the same time!

My specialist is predicting I'll be grade 3 as well and after a fertility semiar I went to that helps get us enough points for public funding if it does get to IVF... I have also been told about the chances increasing after the lap and I too have good bloods etc so it seems (fingers tightly crossed) that it's just the endo holding things up for me too... and again I was told six months after lap then onto next stage if no BFP by then.

Now I just gotta wait for my surgery - rang to update my contact details and checked on waiting list times - was told they're saying six months though they are actually getting in just under that time, so I'm thinking around Nov/Dec and i'll be all go for me!

I'm figuring that's some kind of life lesson I'm learning right now too. Good to hear the lap doubles your chances - yay!!!

I've got my next appointment in about 1 1/2 weeks and then I think we'll be booking my lap, then waiting for that.... hopefully insurance comes through and it won't be too long. He mentioned we could do it the next week if it was private so that's goal one for me!! I think then he wants me to try clomid, but I'm not sure how long after the lap I wait till I do that. I'll try and remember to ask next time.

Author: Emily281
Subject: 19618
Posted: 08 August 2008 at 6:57pm

He already said that we couldn't TTC for 1 month after the lap. Fortunately I had AF during the lap so it will only take us out for 1 cycle. But I'm assuming if he wants to do another lap in 3 months that we can't TTC until after that. We didn't really talk about it much so will ask him at my next appointment (which is in 1 month).

As for fertility it should improve things. He didn't find any endo in my ovaries or tubes and he said my uterus is fine so everything looks ok. I'm assuming that the reason we haven't conceived yet is because my ovaries were being pulled down. He did tell me at my original appointment that I had a cyst on one side which quite often pulls the ovary down so the egg can't get out. Given that he said he pulled both of my ovaries up I guess both were hanging down. So if they stay up we should be good in terms of fertility. He basically said at my original appointment that fertility rates double after surgery and we should try for 6 months on our own and then move onto IVF. Not sure what our chances of public funding will be given that I have stage 3 endo but none of it was found in my ovaries or tubes. So its just back to waiting - waiting to see when we can TTC again, waiting to TTC, waiting to see if we can do it naturally, if not waiting for IVF. Infertility certainly teaches you patience - if nothing else!!

Still feeling quite sore today but am getting better. I have to say that this one has been more painful than the one I had to remove my gallbladder but from what he told me he had to do quite a bit of work in there. He found endo under my ovaries on both sides and in the cavity behind my uterus, he also found adhesions where I'd had my gallbladder removed and on my bowel (which he said I was probably born with but he removed anyway). He said the worst of it was in the cavity behind the uterus and because of that he gave me a stage 3 classification. He also said that my ovaries had dropped down into the deep pelvis so he pulled them up and stitched them in place and wants to do another lap in 3 months to make sure they have stayed in place.

I was trying to point out that even if you go private it could be a couple of months before you acutally get the surgery.

and like Angie said don't mention that it's for fertility. My surgeon also said not to mention that I've had 'symptoms' since I was a teenager. Fortunately for me my pre-existings are covered anyway and I had my gall bladder removed through laparoscopy 3 years ago and they saw no sign of endo but he said he's seen the insurance companies looking for reasons to reject claims lately.

Also, I would say if you are going for pre-approval ring - don't use the online form. There were a lot more questions on the form than I got asked over the phone - maybe because they could see my policy and my history but on the form they asked when you first started having symptoms and when you first sought treatment but they didn't ask me those on the phone.

My specilist, while a fertility specialist, is also a Gynie so put it the correspondance on his private practice letterhead rather than his FA one - my problem was that Southern Cross requested my medical notes and they showed I had had an ultrasound prior to my signing up which showed a 'possible' cyst and that I had had painful periods for some time, so they deemed it all pre-existing and therefore declined my claim.

I'm frustrated mainly because with that initial scan nothing was conclusive or actually diagnosed but it appears 'pre-existing conditions' also covers 'early symptoms' so that was the out-clause loop-hole for them not to pay.

I'm in Christchurch and had my appointment with the surgeon on June 25 and the first surgery date he had available was 5th August (but he had just come back from holiday). AngieBabe is in Wellington I think and she has had to go public for hers and they told her it would probably take 6 months.

My surgeon told me that for women with endo pg rates double after surgery. He also told me to try for 6 months after the lap and then we could move onto IVF - and that given that I'm so young (27!) I could even try for 12 months if I wanted to. I think if there wasn't any hope of getting pg naturally after the surgery they wouldn't tell us to do it. He told me not to TTC for 1 month after surgery and then go for it because the 6-12 months after surgery is when you have the best chance of conceiving.

The cyst was from it as well as areas of scarring around area including a blocked right tube.

I'm so damn sore right now but also of course a little worried about weather we'll have a preg without IVF. The doc thought our best chance will be in the next few months. So just wondering who else is is a similar position and any suggestions you might have. I think I'll post this in the preg forum as well as it'd be interesting to see if anyone has managed to get preg with endo.

Thanks
