Brodie seems to be slightly tounge tied. Have seen Lactation consultant when I was in the hospital about it and discussed it briefly with my MW but no-one seems to have any definate ideas about what we should do.

Has anyone else had a child who was tounge tied and did they do something about it? And if they did, did it help with their feeding (ie improve it) in any way.

Brodie seems to be a bit lazy on the breast and we have been working on latching ALOT (my poor nipples!!!) and wondering if it has anything to do with his TT.

Oh better mention - it isn't overly bad and he does seem to be able to stick his tounge out a wee bit

Rhyley was the same - he had a heart shaped top of it. We did have trouble latching on but once on he fed fine... it would take like 15 minutes to get him latched on though. We in the end worked a way that worked for us (cant remeber what we did different now) But on the good side is - he can talk perfectly clearly and everyone understands him. so did not effect him in that way.

Hiya
my daughter had tongue tie,
just one day old we went to a GP over North Shore and had the little bit of skin under her tongue cut as it was preventing her from latching on properly.
It didn't hurt her a bit, no nerves there etc took all of 1 minute and she was a great feeder after that and has no speech impediments now either.
Paed had said there may be impediment if we left it - so we had it delt with and she's great
hope that helps!

Hi Spencer had one, but the paed that saw him at the hospital said not to let anyone snip it as it would just outgrow, which it has. I'm not sure if that is because his wasn't too bad though. His tongue did use to be kind of forked like a snake. It never seemed to effect him latching, although in saying that I stopped feeding him cos of constant breast infections and blocked ducts so maybe he wasn't actually latching properly.

i had it as a child and they snipped it and fixed it right up i think I was several months old though? my friend's child recently had it done but she is 2 and had a general ..

I guess it depends on severity and what doc says.. ?

Thanks for the replies girls. Have been in hospital for a few days to put Brodie under lights for Jaundice and ended up getting his TT snipped while we were in. The Lactation consultant did it but she said his was unusual as he seemed to be tied on top and the bottom of the little ball thing under his tounge IYKWIM. Anyway - he does seem to be latching alot better so think it has helped a wee bit.
