Yeah I just read it before coming on here. It's quite concerning really, as they're right, the ones who may need the most help are also the ones that could possibly need the $100 voucher the most.
Kawwww, I just hope that Chch doesn't decide to do this for both of our sakes

How did you find it? Did the massive digital clock freak you out? I was concerned as to why someone delivery my baby would need such a big clock to tell the time! Hehe, anyway, when we went to the birthing pool suite right down the end there was a lady giving birth right next door. It scared lots of people but DH and I thought she did remarkably well.
The only thing I worry about is the temperature of the rooms. There is one room though that I spent a day in back in September that is cooler but I don't think you can request it!

Yeah I saw that - I think it's terrible! It makes me upset just thinking about it. No two births are the same - what's to say a second time mum who did fine the first time around won't have real problems this time? (emotionally or otherwise). For a start they'll have another child at home to look after.

did you go last night? they went to the pool and we went home cause our lady is nice but always running late and it was already 845pm....i like the big clocks..lol:) not that I'll be able to see them! i never really questioned why they are so big..i guess the docs need to see time if they are working on the baby.. ? yeah one lady pointed out how hot it was...its for the baby she said but what about after the bubs is born if you stay there..even i found it hot..but i find the class hot too and i normally dont feel the heat at all.

Interesting article - although I have to say that is already what is happening in Chch Womans (without the voucher!) if you think about it. That's what all the transfering out business is about really, at least here we have places to transfer to other than home (dunno what it's like in Wellington).

We went 1 or 2 weeks ago I think (damn baby brain! Can't even remember!) The heat gets to me in the AN room too.
I think 2nd time mums need as much care as first time mums. Yeah they've done it before, but when they go home they'll have another (or more than one) wee one running around disrupting the bonding time that we've all been told is so vital. I just can't get over that they'd offer vouchers, it really is like bribery. I can't believe some of the stuff that the govt funds these days (ie. gender reassignment, flavoured condoms) yet important things like giving a mother and newborn a day or two to bond without distraction are being overlooked. Anyway, enough of a grumble

There is no where to transfer to in Wellington unfortunately Well there's Keneperu(sp) but very limited spaces there.
Already the midwives strongly encourage home births.
I'm having twins and if combined with a c-sect I want a single room! So the more that that take the voucher and leave the better for me
To be honest I find the prospect of being in a shared ward with 2 babies and no hubbie more scary than going home to where my DH and Mum will be sleeping peacefully.

I saw this on Breakfast this morning and thought it was totally ridiculous I know next time I have a baby I'm going to want to stay at the hospital for the same amount of time as I did with James.

Yeah thats where we are lucky in Chch to have places to transfer to as that looks to be the problem 'cos as Tishy says there isn't anywhere to transfer to in Wellington.
But I agree it is bribary and it does suck. And yes I don't think it maters how many children you do or don't have the same level of care should be offered to everyone.

Crap... Fingers crossed that's not me then. I'm due Jan and have to birth at Wellington.
Yes I'm a first time mum, but by the sounds of things, if there's no 'clinical' reason as to why you should be there, then you're outskies...
I'm meant to be getting transferred to Kenepuru, but obviously there's no guarantees
