This week I stopped bfing (I was down to one feed in the morning and it has been that way for a few months).
I just had a shower and noticed my breasts feel pretty lumpy. They are not uncomfortable but I don't want to get blocked ducts or worse mastitis. Should I try and express in the shower or just leave them to settle?
I would express in the shower and just massage out the lumps if you can, and I would think that you should find they will hopefully settle down in a few days.
As long as your not stimulating the nipple you shouldnt produce more if you do the massage in the shower
Also put some cabbage leaves in your bra it should help the lumps settle down...........if you find it getting worse and your body wont stop producing milk you can get tablets that help dry it up..........from the doc
You can try some sage tea from a health food store, that will dry you up quite fast. Chemists sell a naturopharm medicine called "Milk Stop" this is also supposed to be quite effective. The cabbage leaves in your bra should help with the engorged, full feeling. Try not to express as this will encourage more milk to come through. If it starts to get painful, head to the Drs who can make sure everything is alright (ie, no mastitis etc) and prescribe you dopergin to dry up totally.
Cabbage leaves were my best friend when we stopped BFing. I wore them in my bra all night and sometimes during the day when at home if I was sore or lumpy.
