If it's obviously just a typo I don't think anyone minds. But text language is for texts! I use @, &, 2 (to), 4 (for), l8r, & 2moro in texts to fit it in, only to people who I know understand it (& they're words I've saved to predictive text). Definitely use fullstops etc. People who use text speak outside of texts sound thick in my head, if that makes sense. Acronyms I think are great, especially on a forum like this when discussing personal things, eg BD, AF.

I hate it too! My MIL & SIL use it ALL THE TIME. I just want to ring them up and say "what did your text say".
And like one of you said, when it uses the same amount of letters as the real word, whats the point!
And punctuation, especially fullstops, are essential to a text making any sense.
I use predictive and love it.

I used to use predictive but now have a full keyboard. Some of my mistakes are caused by hitting the wrong key and not bothering to correct it.
On a side note I have young people who are around me alot (SIL family) and I have actually heard them say W.T.F not what it stands for but the letters and the worst one is LOL as in pronouncing it lol in lollie... yes I laughed at them and asked them what the hell they were saying hahaha and told them how lame they were

HAHA!
I say "WTF" (*edited to add: 'double-you-tee-eff') around the kids.
And my grandfather signs his emails off with "LOL" thinking it means "lots of love". I haven't the heart to correct him

Haha, "WTF - Why The Face" Modern Family is so funny.
I say lol (like lollie) sometimes.
My mum uses LOL for Lots of Love, it always makes me lol

this also gets on my nerves but not when its used in obvious context. what i really hate is when some people use it in the entire message even on facebook and expect anyone to be able to read it. one of my cousins is soo bad for this.
this is one i just found that a friend wrote
"harrow lmao i can tawk on dat chat thng it wnt work unless sum1 chats ta me im board"
I mean come on really can you just not spell because most of that doesnt even shorten the word laugh out loud

My sisters friend (who happens to be 17) doesn't laugh.... he actually LOLs. As in, says the word 'LOL'.....
"And I lolled and lolled and lolled....."

I do seriously wonder about some young people, how they will cope once they get into the workplace! Are they going to be judged for their shocking spelling since they just spell things however they want??
