I can sympathis completely, Oli started doing something very similar at around 10mths and we have really only just got back into good sleeping habits now, after about a month of hard yakka sleep re-training.

Have you tried a night light? Is there something in his room that he doesnt like that is making him distressed about being in his bed, have a look around and see if there is anything that could seem scary to him. We still have to leave the hall light on for Oli. When we were away at Xmas it all turned to custard and he was waking 4-5 times a night and we were giving him a bottle to settle....it was a nightmare to break those habits...but it did happen eventually!!

Hang in there!

Yup he has a night light. We've always made a point of making his room a happy place for him - eg: 'Yay its thomas's room wow look at this bla bla bla' when we've gone in. He loves his room.

aren't children a JOY at times ??
all the suggestions id have given for sleep have already been given, but my suggestion for your sanity , put him in the cot, let him scream and go outside , even for just a few minutes, so simple but sometimes the best thing .
Just remember to take your keys if you lock the door ...

maybe try a radio in his room so there is a constant noise, I still have one in the girls room as its very quiet out here and if there are any loud noises its usually quite startled, we did this right from when we moved out from hornby (used to be lots of night time noise, specially cars racing round at 2am) so thought it may comfort Ashlyn a bit as she was 18mths at the time.

Cant think of anything else but feel sorry for you & dh you must both be bug**red

we're trying the 'leave him to it' trick tonight to see how he goes. he's done 30 mins of screaming, so i'll see how mental I go before i get him up.
