Interesting , I never knew this .
I have a polar fleece blanket Ty sleeps on top of to keep him off the cold cotton sheet , (C sleeps on one too )
Im not so worried about the risk now , since hes over a year and often sleeps down the other end of the cot anyway , and next baby will be newborn in the summer , so thats handy .

Yeah I think the SIDS risk of babies over the age of 1yo are pretty low. Probably minimal at 8mths too but I am over-cautious
