It could be just as damaging overdressing your baby but we don't hear masses about that one either! And if you are checking how they are going regularly, you're going to know if tey are getting too hot yeah? <br /><br />eta: remember as the youngin's get older, their heat/temp regulation systems continue to improve and develop as well. Its not like anyone under the age of two is going to swelter under a fleece rug <br /><span style="font-size:10px"><br /><br />Edited by Flake</span>]]>

Like to hold baby in or keep them warm etc or should I avoid them altogether? <br /><br />Thanks<br /><br />I think its terrible they sell so many of them if there really is this big risk, I wouldnt have known if I didn't read this... ]]>

For sure they can't temp regulate. themselves as much when they are younger, but when you're up with them so much anyway it only takes a finger behind the neck to get a general idea of how they are feeling, and then there are the other external things you can do to control the room temp etc. <br /><br />Now we've gone for a grobag and a woolen top rug this baby around, only because I can and want too, not out of necessity. ]]>

Jarvi has a fleece sleep sack - only because i can't afford $150 for a merino sleeping bag. He sleeps fine in it, doesnt wake up wet or anything. I have one that doesn't have arms so if he gets to hot his arms are there to cool him down! <br /><br />I think everything is over reacted about these days.. You have to have the flashest of everything or else "your baby is at risk" .. Well.. guess my baby is at risk then but hes fine now, doesn't know the difference between fancy and non fancy at his age! ]]>

But the boys don't sweat in it, and it does the job keeping them warm in the winter which i guess is the whole purpose of sleep sacks anyway.<br /><br />Koby has a polar fleece blanket which the twins used in NICU, they have heaps of them there. So in terms of risk, if they use them in a hospital surely it wouldn't be dangerous.]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=19267">mummyofprinces</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 34717<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 16 July 2010 at 8:42am<br /><br />Its your choice first and foremost what you put your baby in to sleep and this post is in no way meant to scare monger, however, current guidelines from MOH and WHO state babies should sleep in natural fibres only... <br /><br />The reason has nothing to do with it being on their face but with the fact that unnatural fibres like polar fleece do not breathe and as a baby can not regulate their temp properly can overheat which is the link to SIDS.<br /><br />A 3rd year mw student friend of mine (though I can not say for fact as I did not read the figures myself) told me that of the 50 something SIDS deaths last year only ONE did not have polar fleece on their bed.<br /><br />That was enough for me to not use them...<br /><br />But again its YOUR choice.]]>

Would this be the same for sleep sacks?  I thought maybe not because it's not like a blanket that could go over their face.<br /><br />I have loads of polar fleece sleep sacks and wondering now whether to get rid of them!!]]>
