Topic: TMI - 18 mth olds No 2s Posted: 01 August 2010 at 10:54pm |
Hi, I know this is a bit TMI.
But was just wondering whether it is normal for an 18 mth old to still have 'non-formed' poos - eg a thick squisshy mess from the front of the nappy to the back.
My wee girl doesn't get nappy rash, but I'm surprised she doesn't.
She was doing formed poos about two months ago, but then got the tummy bug, and hasn't gone back.
Does eating too much fruit make this happen? She gets about 2-3 servings of fruit a day, like banana, dates, peaches, mandarins.

I would say no it's not....C has only had formed pooh on the odd occasion.
How about getting her a probotic and seeing if that helps. The mandarins & peaches might be a little to acidic for her tummy if her tum is still recovering from that bug.

Hehe I knew the resident toddler diet expert would be along.
We have some probiotic powder in the fridge. Must remember to keep giving it.
I'm also trying to watch for relationships between food vs nappy results. Sometimes it's hard when other people are looking after Brooke (like my parents etc) and you don't know exactly what she's eaten. Apparently my Mum and Dad give Brooke a spoonful of malt when she goes around there. Not sure what that's meant to do!

Malt? Interesting Does she like it?
Anyway, my daughter has always had porridge consistancy poo. No nappy rash, but it can't be good for her front bits!
Jody has a lot of fruit too.
If she does have a more formed poo, she is pretty grumpy in the hours leading up to it.

Malt will be fine, just as long as it's an age appropriate amount!
LMAO I thought that you were going to call me a pooh expert....I hate pooh! Not sure about the food though! C doesn't eat much!
I'd say by that she's not getting nappy rash it will just be her tummy coming back right after a bug.

My 2yr old hardly ever does formed poo's its always mushy stuff, not like the runs or diarrah but...mushy lol Wheres my 11 month old mostly always had formed ones.
He refuses to eat veges, but eats a lot of fruit, so we reckon its because of that. He's other wise fine. DD eats veges, and well, everything, she isnt fussy at all.
My parents used to give us a spoonful of malt each day too, I cant remember why...lol

Cause it's actually good for you. I keep forgetting to get some.
Consistency is the key, meaning as long as the pooh is pretty regular & always the same then that will be just how that kid goes on that diet. There could be mild intolerances but nothing to major.
My poor lad gets anything right from liquid right up to a nicely formed pooh.
Oh and smell....if it smells really horrendous then that is not too good either.

Haha thanks everyone - pretty TMI subject - but at least I know Brooke's nappies are fairly normal now. At least the formed ones are easier to deal with.
Haha Kel we could make you the resident poo expert if you wanna be?!

Hehe resident poo expert, I like it!
Our child development expert friend said that it should be the consistency of porridge (mmmm).
He's at 21 months now and antibiotics still give him runnier poop, but I give him a probiotic and the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce and toast) and cut down on acidic things until his nappies are more bearable again.
Our little guy at 14 months-ish had a bad run of runs after a couple of lots of antibiotics and the usual growing toddler stuff, and I figured out it was cow's milk causing the problem so we went from nasty poop I had to scrub off the cloth nappies to the oatmealy type.
How's that for putting you off your brekkie?!!
