hi my husband and i have a 17mth old and a few months ago we had an early miscarriage at 5 weeks i did not have to have a d and c and hcg levels returned to normal. i have had 2 normal periods since then. But this month i am 8 days late and negative pregnancy tests.
Is this normal and do you sometimes skip a period and if so how to i know when my next cycle starts

Hi Jet.... it could be stress, have you been stressed lately??? Stress effects the phase before ovulation (forget the name). It can cause delayed ovulation, therefore delayed period, or even cause you to skip a period if very bad.
Could also mean you are UTD, but just not registering on a HPT.... I would suggest asking for a blood test if you are concerned.
just got my AF today. At least i know nothing is wrong and i think you are right, stress made the bit before ovulation longer. Oh well another cycle another chance!
