HI Kathryn Happy to post some down to you. There is a store in DUnedin that may sell it so check that one out. Well done with the cupping and yes it does build muscles. I wonder whether its just the packaging people being careful - I would ask around on the forums or friends and see what they say. HI Alex Apologies I only answered half your question. The amounts you feed him actually depend on the baby. I would suggest offering two tablespoons of cereal for breakfast and dinner meals and for lunch probably 3 tablespoons for lunch. If he eats all of the above then you can increase it as he needs it. It is very difficult to actually give amounts, I work on the basis that if he eats all and is looking for more then I give it to him. When offering the vegetables at lunchtime, I would suggest offering him finger food of the same foods that are in his purees i.e., if you made up pumpkin, potato, cauliflower and leeks - I would have sticks of pumpkin, potato and cauliflower all cooked on his highchair tray - this teaches him texture, taste and smell and also when you then progress to whole foods he knows the difference in all the tastes of food. I wouldnt tend to do leeks as they are stringy however later on I would. With regard to being the typical '45' minute napper, I would suggest that you try and resettle him. Hi Louise How long you keep a baby on baby rice does depend on you and your eating habits and how they progress through solids.
For breakfast baby rice can be replaced with oatmeal, millet, quinoa and later on healthy cereals - I tend to purchase from stores like Huckleberry Farms and you can get cereals such as Oatys, PUffed Wheat, healthy rice bubbles etc. The progress through the cereal does depend on how quickly your baby learns to deal with lumps.
Once I have two meals breakfast and dinner established then I introduce vegetables at lunchtime. How quick you go does depend again on the baby and also whether you have allergies or food intolerances in your family. I tend to in the beginning do the three day period, however once I get into vegetables I tend to move through a bit quicker. Lentils, pulses, meat and fish are again dependant on when you choose to do.
When introducing foods that are known allergy foods such as egg I introduce this in cooked form i.e., cake - if there is no reaction then I will add grated egg yolk to vegetables just a little like 1/2 teaspoon to say 5 tablespoons of vegetables and then if no reaction then I increase the yolk quantity. Eventually I will offer the white but I am quite cautious and normally wouldn't do this until around the age of 1 plus.
Dairy I actually don't see the sense of filling our babies up on yogurt and cheese and use these foods sparingly. My goal in the first 12 months in particular is vegetables, vegetables. Again it is a personal choice.
Gluten - I tend to introduce spelt bread as their first bread and then continue onto others from there. Other forms of gluten again are an individual choice and you would introduce when you are comfortable and again depends on whether you have intolerances in your family.
I tend to use wholemeal products such as pasta, bread as I am not a fan of processed white products.
In one of the earlier replies i have posted all the notes i give to clients on solids and introducing vegetables so hope that helps as well. Dorothy

To Kathryn Just FYI you can get Holle products at Liberty Market ChCh, corner of Moorhouse and Fitzgerald... its an organic supermarket with a baby aisle. Not sure if they do the Holle baby millet cereal but have seen Holle milk formula there previously so hopefully! They have other baby cereal options there too that my sister has purchased in the past. Cheers, Pip

Hi Pip Thanks for the information on the store in CHCH - will add that to my list. Okay to resettle - its hard to do this, but worth the effort. Here are my notes on resettling for an over 12 week baby. I would suggest that at night you wait before intervening and see if he resettles on his own. Resettling is not about leaving them to cry it out, but about allowing them their right and ability as an individual to re find their sleep and you intervene if they can't do this. ohbaby.docx

Thanks Pip. I actually went to Liberty Market on Tuesday and they didn't have the Holle Millet but I purchased the Ceres Organic Millet there. They did however stock whole grain baby rice cereal (brand was Earth's Best Organics) which I wasn't able to find at the supermarket. I also tried Piko Piko Wholefoods yesterday and they didn't stock Holle either although the lady there did advise that the Ceres brand is OK for 6 months +.

Hi Dorothy
I measured the temperature in the room last night at 18.7 degrees, which had dropped to 16.5 degrees by this morning. I don't have any heating on in our room (we are sharing still) specifically, but it gets warmed up by the other heating going in the house - we turn this off when we go to bed which is why the room temperature dropped by morning.

Hi as Knox is 8 months old it is important he has food before milk so when he wakes he is ideally having his solids, then milk. A rough guideline is as follows. You also mention is awake time is approx 2 to 2 1/2 hours (both these points were covered in an email from you). At 8 months ideally he is up for around 3hours plus soI would suggest that you start stretching this.
8.00 Wakes 8.30am breakfast followed by milk feed
11.am Morning tea - full breast feed 11.15am Nap
1.15pm Lunch - Vegetables offer water with meal
345pm Afternoon tea - offer full milk feed 4.00pm Nap
6.0pm Dinner Vegetables followed by milk feed Evening routine Bath, top up, clean teeth, sleeping bag
8.30pm Bed for the night
I would suggest with the night waking to allow him time to resettle - if he is just grizzling just leave him alone - it will take approx 20 minutes for him to resettle.
ALso if you do go into him just sit with him and cup him back to sleep - see if this will work. Dorothy

Hi Thanks for emailing the additional information I asked for. I would say that the meltdown at bedtime is that he is over tired.
You mentioned his awake times are the first one just for 1 1/2 to 2 hours then the ext is 2 hours and the last one 3 to 4 hours. I would suggest that you try and balance out his awake times more evenly and have his last awake time at the end of the day no longer than the other two.
The reason why I asked about the silent reflux was due to the fact that the crying only happened at this time of the night and i was just going through all the reasons why it could be happening.
I would also suggest that he has his dinner plus some milk, then a bath, then a top up, and then into bed for the night. If you are bathing before his dinner this will also make him more tired and probably not too keen to eat as much as he would if he was not tired.

Hi Dorothy,
That was a very informative session. I did meet up with you in the end of the morning session and asked a question about introducing solids. I had basically read a few things about it and most references said introducing a new vegetable every 2-3 days at around midday. So I started off with lunch rather than breakfast and dinner, but your way makes more sense. Now my son, Aaryan nearly 6 months is 3 weeks into weaning, so really cannot change anything about introducing solids. He has taken to liking most of the veges in the first foods list. He sleeps through the night and takes good naps in between as well. However, I wanted to now introduce a second meal , but not sure which one, breakfast or dinner? Could you please help?
