Topic: 5am mornings - 9mth old Posted: 03 February 2012 at 7:22am |
I know there's a bunch of threads on here for this but can't find any.
It's the same old story. DS2 (9mths) wakes between 5 & 5.30am and I'd rather he didn't. I guess I shouldn't be complaining that my baby sleeps 10hrs, but I'd really rather it was 11. A good wakeup time would be closer to 6 / 6.30 am.
I've tried leaving him to cry - I give up at 1/2hour and by then it's so close to get up time anyway.
I've tried feeding him (BF) and putting him back in his cot, again no luck and by then it's so close to get up time anyway.
The room is very dark, and I think we've got his room temp / bedding sorted.
Anything else we could try?

What worked for us was doing it 10mins at a time (it took less time than you might think).
We picked a start time (i think 5.30), then just didn't get him up til then , no matter what time he woke up. Once he'd woken twice in a row at that time we moved that time to 5.40...and so on.
Of course that would only work if you're okay with letting DS cry a little bit.
Our DS would cry for a bit but generally just start talking to himself until we got him up! Very cute.

How many naps does he have a day? When DS started doing that (at a similar age, although I think he was ten months?), it was time to drop one. I was dreading it, but it was actually a good thing in the end.

hmmm.... day naps. well until recently he was 1x45min, 1x1.5hr but just lately he's shortening his day naps to random lengths. maybe it is the day naps.

What time are you putting him to bed? We put E to bed at 8.30pm to avoid early morning wakeups, she wakes at 7.45am most mornings, BLISS!

That's just over 11 hours.
We put J to bed at 7, and I'd be happy with a 6am wakeup.
