    Posted: 26 May 2011 at 9:34am
Hi Ladies,

Was just wondering if anyone else has had a Hemangioma (Strawberry Birthmark) removed by surgery?

My wee babe is booked in for monday(30th) to have her's taken off & im a tad nervous, so would love to hear other ppls storys, how long does the op take? how much pain is there afterwards? any info would be great!

***Please no comments on why are we not just leaving it to go away by itself, its located on her neck & rubs on everything & we have been told our best option was to remove it to avoid future complications.(not to mention, kids can be nasty!)

Thanks Heaps.

I don't have any experience with the op, just wanted to wish you and your wee girl good luck for Monday.

DD has a small strawberry on her forehead near her hairline, but position-wise it hasn't been a problem. Can imagine one on the neck would be a constant source of irritation though.

Hmm Im not sure but my DD has a big one on her finger tip(palm side). She never seems bothered by it luckily, I was worried she'd have to have it removed.

When you are born with a marking on your skin, it is not always a big deal at first. Sometimes they are just a little spot that your parents probably assumed would fade. Sometimes they do, and sometimes they do not. When they do not and they are larger than you would like, you should really look for birthmark removal doctors who might be able to remove it for you.

You may want to go to your doctor first if you are considering having a marking removed. It might be good to have it examined in case it were to have an irregularity that could be cancerous. This probably is not likely, but it could be possible.

If you get the okay from a doctor that it is probably okay to go forward with the marking being removed normally, then you should begin your search for birthmark removal doctors. Those that do this, will most likely be plastic surgeons. All plastic surgeons will probably not specialize in this area, but some will, and you will just need to find the ones that do. Experience in the specific area with which you are concerned is something that you should definitely consider as you look for the right birthmark removal doctors.

Besides experience, you should also look for a plastic surgeon that will be affordable. It might not be as expensive to have a mark removed as it might be for some plastic surgery treatments, but it will still cost some money. You can try to submit it to your insurance, but they might not pay for it since it is more of a cosmetic issue than something medical.

There are different types of marks that people can be born with. The type might determine how long it takes for the removal. It might take more than one treatment to fade the area. Laser therapy may be a successful way to have a mark removed.

If you are unable to find a plastic surgeon that you would like to remove your mark, you can also talk to a dermatologist. Those in this profession may have the equipment to take care of your mark as well.

Once you find out that you are a good candidate and you are able to choose from Laser Birth Mark Removal in India doctors, hopefully the one you choose will be able to get rid of the mark quickly without too many treatments being necessary. You might find that at first you almost miss the mark that you were born with. Most likely, that will pass though, and you will be glad for the change.
