Topic: Listeria Ltd. Posted: 25 June 2007 at 12:43pm |
One of my friends and I have always joked that one day we'll make a killing selling banned-during-pregnancy food in maternity wards, and calling the business 'Listeria Ltd'
Anyway, I know we discussed this months and months ago, but there's a whole new bunch of mums-to-be in here now so I'll open it up again:
What foods are you most looking forwards to eating after your pregnancy?
I'm hanging out for smoked salmon/avocado sushi and a Slick Chick burger from Burger Fuel - can't wait to scoff them down!

Oh man, I can't wait to have KFC! And ham. And soft cheeses...
I wish there was a salivating smiley...like Homer Simpson does.

Naughty, but the only thing I stayed away from during my pregnancy was alcohol and raw fish.
I had ham, cold chicken, all types of cheese. ALL cheese in NZ has to pasteurized by law so there is no risk at all of eating unpasteurized cheese.
I worked in a deli for four years and most of the meat is sold so fast that it is always fresh.
I know that not many people would agree with me but I think the listeria hype is a whole lot of bullsh*t and it all comes down to common sense.

is it correct that you can have soft cheese if it is made with pasturised milk and consumes within 2 hours of opening? I though i read this on one of the many pregnancy advice books that the midwife gave me.

Sushi and wine!
Yip, ffudehtpu, as long as you eat it on the day that it is open then its ok. You shouldn't put it back in the fridge and then eat it the next day....good excuse to eat the whole lot without feeling too piggy as you would hate to waste it.

Oh man, I did this heaps of time. And at my baby shower we had camembert and brie sitting out for like three-four hours on the table and I still ate it after that time.
But like Melln said, it's all about moderation!

Sushi, meat pies and custard squares
Cooked chickens and coleslaw just so we can buy quick dinners again without having to prepare something.

I've been having KFC! Who cares? I heat it up when I get home anyway.
Camembert, a nice chicken, brie and cranberry panini from the mall. At the moment they don't heat them up enough for my liking.
Jagermeister! Hehehe I bought a bottle when we got back from honeymoon and never got around to having a Jager nigth with the girls. That will unfortunately have to wait until bubs is 5 months old though, when DH comes home and takes the baby!

Custard squares, soft cheeses (especially blue cheese), red wine and seafood like prawns. I also miss chicken rolls and panini's.
I admit that I have given in and had sushi on occasion, as long as I've seen it made fresh.
