I'm pretty sure if you ring them the Sallies will come and pick it up for you.
My parents moved from their farm a couple of years ago to a townhouse so had heaps of stuff to donate, we just carted it all to their depot type thing and dropped it off.

Or try your local womens refuge - they have always been really grateful and sent someone round to pick it up when I have stuff to get rid of

Womens Refuge, Mary Potter Hospice, Sallies, St Vinnies... 2nd hand shops maybe?
Plus all of the above, if you ring and let them know what you have they'll take what they want and often can come pick it up from you free of charge!
Otherwise tip maybe?

You could list them on this website
DonateNZ
Or in addition to the other suggestions, maybe contact somewhere like Ronald McDonald House?

Yep, I second the suggestion of Women's Refuge (and often St Vinnies work in conjunction with them)... they were stoked when I had some stuff to donate (a lot more than the Sallies who seemed to have become quite particular about what they receive - IMO anyways)

Women's refuge is my first choice but what they take does depend on where you live. In Wellington they've got so much stuff that they were only taking whiteware. So the rest of the stuff got bagged up and the Sallies came and picked it up (I was lucky I guess because the only thing they didn't take was an old gas heater).
For anything that doesn't get taken by the WR or Sallies you could check with your Council. In Wellington they've got a recycle centre that takes pretty much anything.

Recycle centre - do you mean Trash Palace? In Kenepuru/Porirua?
And we've noticed our local Sallies are quite particular too, often only taking things that either a. are worth a bit or b. sell quickly.

I guess it's something like that Lil-Nic9. We live in town and the Happy Valley landfill has a place you can drop off stuff that's OK for recycling rather than dumping it. Of course it means supporting your local council rather than charity! But maybe they're less particular?!?!

I just called the Sallies in Tawa and dropped it off on one of the days they were open. That way, they can't refuse it hahaha.
ETA: sorry, bit far for you to go. heheh

does anyone know where these drop off places are in either auckland or hamilton.
I could just wait for a local school to have a gala but i kind of want the stuff gone asap. my living room is just taken up with boxes of unwanted stuff. and there is loads more to sort through.
I am very close to just taking everything to the dump, there is a hopice store in town might ask them where i can drop stuff off.
I took a re useable shopping bag full of pregnancy and birth related magizines to the maternity hospital.

We just went in and dropped stuff off at the hospice shop when we were clearing out the house, they normally have a sign on the window if they have too much of something, oh and they won't take electrical stuff
