Topic: Anyone shipped a kitchen aid from the US? Posted: 29 November 2010 at 7:43pm |
Next year we are going to the states for a holiday and I was wondering whether it would be cheaper to buy a kitchen aid mixer over there and ship it back. has anyone done this?
Does anyone know the cost of the mixers in the States?
TIA

I do know they run on 110v over there whilst our electricity is 220-240v. You can buy the correct voltage ones over there but you need to go to a specialty store. They are online and you just need to google 220v kitchen aid. I wouldn't ship. Going to the states you can get two suitcases of 50lbs each. I would use your kitchen aid as one of those suitcases packed in a box with clothes around it.

Try this site it is $125 for shipping which you could save.

Works out with shipping to be $454 US which is $576.29 NZ

Either way be careful you don't get stung by customs. And I think the luggage allowance has now changed for the states...but not 100% sure.

Rainbow - you got me worried there as we are going back in august and will be taking empty cases to bring back lots of stuff. lol. I just checked qantas and it is still 2 pieces up to 23kgs of 50lbs. There is no info saying that it is going to expire too thank goodness. I remember something about transitting in LA on the way thru to europe being only 1 suitcase now.

ok there is no customs duty on food mixers but there may be gst. gst is calculated on shipping as well so you may have to pay $60ish dollars. Customs do waiver the fees if it is under $60 but in this case it may be slightly more but compared to $800-1000 for the same item here it isn't a bad deal still. Also there possibly will be a customs transaction fee of $23

I would buy online and get it sent to your address in san francisco. To get a 220v one is hard as there is no call for it in the states. I had no luck just going into shops. I was looking for stuff before moving back to nz and I had to go online for it all. They are purely for an overseas market. Most websites in the US do free domestic shipping.

Thanks for that. I was looking online but couldn't seem to find any 220v ones.
Do you have one that you brought back from the states? Have you had any problems with it?

I have a kitchen-aid i got from the states and its amazing - my mom brought it back in a suitcase with her. But it is commercial kitchen standard - i'm sure you know what you want and what you're doing and i don't mean to sound like a crazy woman - but if its just for a home kitchen you can get cheaper models (that arent as awesome but work perfectly for home cooking)

I didn't bring it back but have stuff we did bring back and it is all fine. Even with a voltage converter which is a pain but makes it work well. This is the website to get it on and they are on special at the moment

I do have a list of things to buy over there though. Osh kosh at target is dirt cheap, Like $10 shirts and $12 jeans. On special I would get them for $5 Mossimo also at target. Jeans for the kids. Oh and energizer batteries. Can't beleive how expensive batteries are here. Also polly pocket and littlest pets shop and lego. Also my carpet stain remover and ironing in a bottle. Just spray the wrinkles away. I can't remember all the things I will look out for but just to have the variety. Definately got shoppers withdrawal. As for restaurants can't wait for olive garden, joes crab shack and red lobster. They aren't that great but you miss them when they aren't around. But in saying all that I love being back home in NZ a quick shopping fix every two years is more than adequate. Take empty suitcases.

Luggage allowances are different with different airlines and can depend on a few things, so double check it. Just wanted to add!

I know! Air New Zealand changed theirs in May, which I was so annoyed about, DH is going over there in a week and I wanted him to bring me a Jumperoo back. He's still going to, but he has to pay excess luggage. Funny thing is, it's still going to be cheaper than what you can buy them for in New Zealand and you can only get one model here, and I wanted a different one.

Just to update you all - ordered it on Monday, it arrived on Thursday in NZ and got a call from customs to pay an extra $120 for gst. So make sure you factor that into your calculations :)

hmmm it might be tight to get it here, but they're pretty fast. if it didn't arrive before christmas it would definitely be here only a couple of days after.

10A I think is the connection not the voltage. I don't think the A stands for amps. Possibly a,b,c instead. Voltage in the states is 110V here it is 220V. We have blown a few items by plugging them in here without checking their voltage.
