Topic: What pain relief while Breastfeeding? Posted: 13 October 2009 at 12:57pm |
I have my first AF since having Jackson and now need some pain relief. What is ok and whats not ok to take while breastfeeding? I know Panadol and Nurofen are ok but they dont usually work on me for AF.
I used to take Ponstan and on the odd occasion Naprogesic. Are either of these ok?

No I don't think they are. Check with your Dr maybe, but I wouldn't take them.

Check with your doctor - as a rule of thumb paracetamol is the safe option, you can also take codiene for severe pain (as a short term option).

Oh Ponstan...that bad huh? I was on that too.
I would definately talk to your doctor before taking anything more than Panadol.

Codeine is normally fine, they give it post c/s, and nurofen/voltaren as well.

I second cuppatea - voltaren is all good. In fact, maybe try taking panadol and voltaren together (according to their separate instructions of course) and hopefully that might make a diff? Hugs, the first AF is NOT fun!

Great thanks ladies. I will give the Panadol and Nurofen a go together and then check with my Dr next time I see him.
Congrats Kristy

Paracetamol, ibuprofen, and diclofenac sodium are safe to take while BFing. Naprogesic is listed as an L3, so use with caution and watch for signs of sedation.
