how long do you allow your bubs to stay awake during the day between sleeps ??

plunket advice was only 1 n half hours at a time and then back to bed..

he is content, happy and smiling so i figure why try to get him to sleep when hes not even tired right ??

he does sleep really well.. 3 hours at a go mostly and two lots of 5 hours at night ....

any advice ?

Elias lasts an hour .. an hour and a half max (that includes the feed, change and playtime).

I will warn you though .. babies usually start out great sleepers, then as they become more aware with the world become tired cranky little babies lol

Both mine were only ever up for 45-75 mins at that age, well apart from on the days when I couldn't get them to go to sleep.

And yeah agree with above, the more aware and nosey they become the worse they get at sleeping, and then once you have some good sleep routines in place it normally flips back and they become good again.

Also they don't always get cranky when tired, the tired signs can be quite confusing, especially the jerky movement one, which looks they are just enjoying being up when really they are over it. They also do the vacant stare thing, so again they aren't cranky but they are tired. Often they do vacant stare then jerky movement, then more vacant stare then jerky movement, but will still smile and interact with you etc.

Ditto , to all of the above
Ty is up for an hour before he shows signs of wanting to go to bed , which in his case , are staring into space and looking pretty chillaxed, then 5 mins after i put him to bed hes sound asleep

Jake was up for a max of 50mins at that age, Morgan an hour - Plunket say 1 hour max I'm sure. Morgan is up for closer to an hour and a half now and a little longer every now and then .... but still shows tired singns after an hour sometimes.

Ben is 12wks and will only last about 1/2hr before showing tired signs although he is otfen up longer if I get caught up with Jack and he still stays relatively happy.
Every baby is different so as long as you are aware of when they are showing tired signs then it doesn't really matter how long they are up for. A friend's baby who is only 14hrs older than Ben is happily up for 1.5hrs as opposed to Ben's 1/2hr!

Ashley is 7 weeks today. She usually stays up 30mins to 1 hour max. In the early afternoon she just wakes to feed then goes straight back down so is only up about 20mins. I find the perfect moment to get her into bed is when she goes very still and starts to gaze off. At that point she goes to sleep without a yell.

If your little one is happy however and still napping well and doing good stretches overnight then keep doing what you are doing...don't fix it if it ain't broke! He will let you know soon enough if he is getting overtired (either by getting grizzling, napping less or waking more in the night).
