Topic: 7 mth old sleeping at night Posted: 13 October 2008 at 5:51pm |
Lincoln still isn't sleeping through the night. Occassionally we wake up in the morning (5.30am) to discover he's slept through but these days are few and far between. My questions are: what time does your 7 mth old go to bed? and do they sleep through the night? Lincoln goes to bed at about 6.30pm and wakes between 3 & 4am then again at 6am. I am begining to get very tired and need to go back to work in December so need this issue stored out before then. Thanks for your help!

eden is about the same age and she sleeps thru most nights but then has done almost since she came home. she will on occasion wake up about 3/4 am tho and last night at 3 and 4...
have you tried giving him a top up feed about 10/11pm before you go to bed?

Daniel did this until a year old pretty much. They decide to sleep through when they are ready, that's what I came to accept anyway. It didn't seem to matter what we did or tried he would wake once during the night and then slowly started sleeping through on the odd ocassion and slowly it became more frequent but it didn't start til around 11 months.
I don't think that's an early bedtime, I'd say that's just right.

Thank you, I'm almost crying reading the other posts and learning that Lincoln is normal!! I have alot of friends who's children slept through from very early ages and I was begining to worry that I had stuffed it up somewhere along the line but I was too afraid to ask.

you poor thing... no he is perfectly normal. My three year old even now doesnt always sleep through the night.
i put eden to bed about 7.30... she normally wakes from a nap and has a boobie feed at 6, dinner with us at 6.30 and then a bath with the boys and then bed. and sometimes she will sleep till 6 or 7 other times she wakes at 3 and sometimes she will wake at 11pm.

Lincoln is perfectly normal. My 1st bub didn't sleep through until he was 9 1/2 months. Liam (around the same age as Lincoln) has only just starting sleep through over the last week. The odd time he has woken at 2am and we have given him a cuddle and put him back down in bed, he has cried for a bit not long and then gone back to sleep until 6am.
We put Liam to bed at 7pm and if he sleeps through he can wake anytime from 5.30am onwards.
I know what you mean about feeling tired I can so relate to that.

Chloe has only just started sleeping through the night in the last couple of weeks... so from about 7 and a half months. She would occasionally do it before then but not often. She goes to bed between 6.30 and 7pm and sleeps right through until 7am, for the last 2 weeks!! Long may it continue!! We didn't do anything differently... Although she knows at night if she wakes up, she doesn't get out of bed, only gets given her dummy again until she goes back to sleep.

Thanks everyone. I'm tired again this morning. I made sure Lincoln had a big feed before bed last night, full breastfeed, a tin and a half of solids. A bath then tucked up in bed at 6.30ish. This morning he woke at 4am and I thought I would try giving him a cuddle, re-wrapping him again (thats a whole other issue) and back to bed. At 4.45am I was sworn at my the normally lovely DH and told to feed him. I just can't win!!!!

i find that if eden wakes at that time of morning it is quicker to just feed her. i remember thinking once, "oh i'll give her a cuddle and a re tuck in", but 30 mins later when she started sucking on my cheek i gave in and fed her. now i'm out again within 10 mins.

Yip I get that too when I try to leave DD to see if she'll self settle. I agree with Bizzy, it's quicker just to feed them and put them back down but sometimes you've gotta try these other things just to make sure it's not the simple answer to all night sleeping.
DS1 didn't start sleeping through more nights than not till 2 1/2 and DS2 till 2.........don't you just feel like throttling those mums who have sleeping babies, lol

Up again at 1.30 this morning! He had poo'ed and it was huge so who can blame him. I wouldn't want to lie in that for another 5 hours. I think next week I will slowly train him out of waking up (I say with my fingers crossed) I'll try the CIO method that I have been researching. I know that he's not hungry because last night he latched then didn't do anything. One day years from now I know that I will miss this special time the two of us have together in the middle of the night. It is lovely to have a sleepy baby lying in your arms!!

Hi Nicci
My little boy is 8 months old and has slept through the night once ... a long, long time ago! I am currently trying to improve his sleeping using suggestions from the 'No Cry Sleep Solution'. It is not a quick fix by any means. We have been doing this for just over three weeks now and are definitely seeing some improvement. He has gone from waking up 3-4 times a night for a full feed to waking up just once the last two nights, having a very brief feed before being returned to his cot where he is self-settling.
I have returned to my old ways a couple of times (giving him a big feed so he falls back to sleep very quickly when I have been desperate for more than a couple of hours sleep) but I really think things are improving. Have a big hug and remember there are lots of us going through the same thing. He will sleep through at some point!

So just an update ... we were up from 12.15am til 3am this morning with Lincoln. Tried just about everything under the sun, feeding (wasn't interested), bonjela (licked his gums), pamol (spat it out at me), cuddles, swaddling, quietly singing, reading, more blankets, less blankets. I officially give up. If I had a choice I would put off going back to work because of his sleep issues but finacially thats just not an option. What the heck to do next????

I felt exactly the same as E took forever to sleep through the night..partly due to dummy though..I'm totally against waking babies but we ended up waking him at 930 (after sleeping at 630-7) and he goes through till morning but sometimes (like teething) he is up a few times for dummy .. he is still normal!:) and I sympathise as I know how you feel:) !

crazyily I missed the middle of the night time too even though i complained bitterly bout it:) but once we stopped feeding him at night eventually he slept through.. the other thing that helped was me getting tougher..I used to jump at every noise but I left him a bit longer and all combined seemed to help...
if my DH said that I can't print what the answer would be:)! not very supportive!!
