This has probably been answered before but I didn't know what to search for.
My sister has a 13 month old and a new born. The newborn is up every couple of hours at night and the 13 month old is up all day so my sister is exhausted. I am only here for a couple of days but want to help...do you think she would take offense if I went and tidied her house and did her washing? I thought of taking the 13 month old for the day so she and baby could sleep (I know she won't mind that as I have had him for the day several times before). But then I thought if I do that she'll probably spend the time trying to get the house in order. So I thought maybe if I went over, tidied etc for an hour or two then took her boy for the day? I don't want her to take offense though...
Thoughts?

If it were me I'd be very grateful too! My mum comes over and does that kinda stuff (washing, dishes, vaccuming) and it is such a big help.

You're her sister, I'm sure she'll appreciate having you look after her toddler and tidy her house a bit. i sure would.
On a lighter note, it's not like she's got the energy to be offended anyway!

I think that would be fine. I just had my SIL and MIL come and do mine and I was only a little offended... They were only trying to help and they did!! So I would go for it!!
If my sister came and helped out I would be very grateful!

I took one of my good friends babys for a walk the other day for an hour and a half and she was SO greatful! So anything you do she will be pleased with :)

I would find it hard to let someone do that for me. Not that I would be offended but just feel like its my job. I would however love having a tidy house

As Topsy said, I'd find it a little hard to accept (just because that's the way I am) however I'd get over it pretty quickly and be very grateful! I think its a great idea - go for it

I've been round and done some washing, helped her tidy and clear out her boy's room (I would have done it by myself but she didn't want to go back to bed), did some dishes, cleaned the bathroom and kitchen and did some vacuuming. I think she was most grateful for the toast and coffee I made her while she fed baby though lol. She told me yesterday that it was such an achievement to get both boys organised that she didn't usually manage to eat much herself.
Anyway I have a new found respect for all you mums! Not that I didn't before...but I really really don't know how she gets anything done, especially when sleep deprived!

i still remember a friend (my other mum) coming over, chatting to me then getting up like she was going to toilet...and ext minute the washing was on,load bought in, being folded and jug on....all the while my MIL sat on sofa and didnt move!!!
Bubs was weeks old and I have not forgotten - it meant a lot....
do what you can...a little goes a long way!
wish someone would come be that fairy for me now...LOL!

Aww what a nice sister, a friend of mine sawy how much I was struggling one day so she brung all her cleaning gear (shes a cleaner) and cleaned my whole house properly lol. It was the nicest thing.

I just wish she lived in the same city as me so I could help out more often (and see my nephews more of course).
She had me get baby changed yesterday evening which was a bit of a challenge for me lol. I am used to older babies but not 1 week olds! I said it'll be good when I have babies and she comes to see me - she knows how to do it all already!
Anyway I will have to remember all this for when other friends have babies...I know I have been guilty of going to visit others and not helping out. My only excuse is that I didn't know they'd want help (stupid me  )

And you visit other friends with babies, even if all you do is offer to the make the tea, even that is enough for a frazzled mum to feel grateful! (it takes the pressure of us feeling like we have to enteratain!)
