My Sis was over from oz for a couple of weeks after my girl was born and she just pottered round the house, helping me out with washing, cleaning, cooking etc and even got the baby out of her cot in the early mornings (like 6am-ish) and settled her before bringing her into me for a feed. She did stay at my home though so doing lots of housework and helping me out didn't really seem silly or offensive (cos she was dirtying stuff and eating too).

And you visit other friends with babies, even if all you do is offer to the make the tea, even that is enough for a frazzled mum to feel grateful! I just wish she lived in the same city as me so I could help out more often (and see my nephews more of course).

She had me get baby changed yesterday evening which was a bit of a challenge for me lol. I am used to older babies but not 1 week olds! I said it'll be good when I have babies and she comes to see me - she knows how to do it all already!

Anyway I will have to remember all this for when other friends have babies...I know I have been guilty of going to visit others and not helping out. i still remember a friend (my other mum) coming over, chatting to me then getting up like she was going to toilet...and ext minute the washing was on,load bought in, being folded and jug on....all the while my MIL sat on sofa and didnt move!!!

Bubs was weeks old and I have not forgotten - it meant a lot....

do what you can...a little goes a long way!

Thanks guys

I've been round and done some washing, helped her tidy and clear out her boy's room (I would have done it by myself but she didn't want to go back to bed), did some dishes, cleaned the bathroom and kitchen and did some vacuuming. I think she was most grateful for the toast and coffee I made her while she fed baby though lol. She told me yesterday that it was such an achievement to get both boys organised that she didn't usually manage to eat much herself.

Anyway I have a new found respect for all you mums! I think that would be fine. I just had my SIL and MIL come and do mine and I was only a little offended... They were only trying to help and they did!! So I would go for it!!

This has probably been answered before but I didn't know what to search for.

My sister has a 13 month old and a new born. The newborn is up every couple of hours at night and the 13 month old is up all day so my sister is exhausted. I am only here for a couple of days but want to help...do you think she would take offense if I went and tidied her house and did her washing? I thought of taking the 13 month old for the day so she and baby could sleep (I know she won't mind that as I have had him for the day several times before). But then I thought if I do that she'll probably spend the time trying to get the house in order. So I thought maybe if I went over, tidied etc for an hour or two then took her boy for the day? I don't want her to take offense though...
