Topic: I dont know... Posted: 20 March 2007 at 10:10pm |
Hi ladies
I haven't been posting much but have been lurking. Anyway I have a question for you all.
AF was due on Friday and hasn't arrived. I came off the pill last November, and every month after that it was bang on 28 days.
I tested Sunday night and again tonight.. BFN both times.
What do you think? Could it be due to stress? I have had quite a stressful time at work lately.
Or could the tests just not be showing it up? From your experience, what do you think? Am I over-reacting?

I think it could be either of those. Wait a few days and then try a test first thing in the morning

when I first came off the pill I had a few regular cycles, and then would get some that would go well against the norm, one was around 10 weeks. If nothing turns up soon I would suggest a trip to the doctor as they can check there is nothing else going on, and then try charting as Jess suggests, then you will know exactly when you are due.

Hi Arohanui,
I was in a similar boat as you. Have had 30 day cycles for the last 10 months and then last month, bang!! 34 days. Not sure what happened there, but I am learning to just go with the flow a little.
I do think charting is a good idea - it's really helped me understand and feel like I have some control. www.fertilityfriend.com has some good software to make it easy.
Good luck with your trying!

How do you know when you're ovulating?? I came off the injection in November last year, and this month had my first period since November 05 (when I went on the injection). It was really light and short, so how can I find out if I am ovulating?? It's all so confusing!

Arohanui stress for me usually makes my period spacings smaller but it could easily be a late period (due to stress or just something we don't know) or you may be pregnant but it's too early to show up on the test. I'd give it another week.

Thanks for your thoughts - I haven't tried charting as we aren't officially trying..
Still no AF, now it's been 8 days since it was due. I'm just waiting.
I'm a bit at a loss of what to do cos I don't want to make a big deal about something that may just be my body getting used to being off the pill. I thought it was sorted, but I guess it may have tricked me, and it could be what happened to you Sarah Beth.
TMI but... for the last 3 days I thought I had started AF cos it would feel like I had. But I'd check and it wasn't. It was like extra, uh, discharge down there. Sorry way TMI!!!
Oh and I forgot to say that on the day my AF was due, I had a very light bleeding (just spotting really) that I thought was it starting, but then nothing eventuated from it.
I did another test on Thursday night (now I have none left, oops) cos of this, plus I looked at my boobs and they looked bigger (DH agreed.. weird). I'm sorry for the TMI but I'm just really curious and wondering if its just hormones cos I've had 3 BFN!! Cos apart from these things, my body doesn't really feel any different.
The tests I did said I could do them anytime... is it worth actually doing it first thing in the morning? And why is that? Last time I got Clearblue or something but this time I got First Response (the pee in a cup one) cos it was cheaper.
I was gonna go to the doc but I can't go til after pay day next week, plus its so hard fitting it in around work.
I'm just getting so impatient!
Help!!

when I fell pregnant I suspected I was because I did have a very big increase in discharge. You are right though, it could be your body getting used to not being on the pill.
First morning pee is best as it contains the higher concentration of HCG which is wha they test for.

When you came off the pill SB, did you have an increase in discharge then? Like when your cycle was against the norm?

Oh man, it sure sounds possible that you are pregnant but with 3 BFNs? That's really weird. I wonder if you ovulated late in your cycle so the tests you have done are then too early to show up. Sounds like a trip to the Doc would be the best thing.

Arohanui I had exactly the same thing, 3 negative tests, no AF, aching boobies, and alot of discharge. I then tested around 10-12 days (for memory) after AF was due and got a BFP! Then I went and tested again because I still couldn't believe the result and got another BFP! So I guess its just a waiting game, as annoying I know it is!

Wow Peachy I wonder if it is going to turn out like yours... I have the same symptoms except I don't have aching boobs, they just look bigger! I'm not really well-endowed
And busymum yeah I agree it is weird and I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so!
So the waiting game.... I'm not very patient with this sort of thing, I just want to know. I keep thinking, man, what if I am preggy!?
I'm in at work today, the only one here, so I spent a while disctracting myself with paperwork, but now I am the one being distracted by my own wonderings!!
Thanks for your comments and I will keep you updated as to what happens..

Someone may have mentioned and im not sure what the story is where you live but here if you go to your docs and just tell them its for a pregnancy test its free.
Good luck.

Thanks my2angels.. I'm in Auckland, so I'm not too sure. Is it true that if it's positive you don't have to pay for it, but if it's negative you do?
I was thinking of getting bloods done, does that show up earlier than the pee test?

I would think they would suggest bloods anyway with you being so late.
Ive had a neg and not had to pay. I just had to make an appt with the nurse rather than doctor. Anything maternity is covered anyway. Thats in christchurch but im sure one of the auckland ladies will be able to tell you if its the same up there.

The spotting is also a chance of either implantation which would mean you ovulated later than predicted....or you may have just ovulated...
Good luck

Arohanui I am in Auckland and the doc said anything pregnancy related for me is free, he just gave me a few preggy tests to take home with me for the next few weeks. He did say it was too early to test bloods and turns out I was 3 weeks pregnant when I finally got the BFP (had to go for a dating scan to find out when I had conceived though)!
I too thought the missed AF was stress as I had just had my wedding! Even the doc suspected stress, until the BFP! Turns out I fell pregnant the week leading up to the wedding - what a shock!!
