Hi ladies
I haven't been posting much but have been lurking. Anyway I have a question for you all.
AF was due on Friday and hasn't arrived. I came off the pill last November, and every month after that it was bang on 28 days.
I tested Sunday night and again tonight.. BFN both times.
What do you think? Could it be due to stress? I have had quite a stressful time at work lately.
Or could the tests just not be showing it up? From your experience, what do you think? Am I over-reacting?

I think it could be either of those. Wait a few days and then try a test first thing in the morning

I used to get my period bang on each day like 28 days each month and found out i wasnt ovulating. Then when i started ovulating my cycles went all crazy.
have you tried charting?

when I first came off the pill I had a few regular cycles, and then would get some that would go well against the norm, one was around 10 weeks. If nothing turns up soon I would suggest a trip to the doctor as they can check there is nothing else going on, and then try charting as Jess suggests, then you will know exactly when you are due.

Hi Arohanui,
I was in a similar boat as you. Have had 30 day cycles for the last 10 months and then last month, bang!! 34 days. Not sure what happened there, but I am learning to just go with the flow a little.
I do think charting is a good idea - it's really helped me understand and feel like I have some control. www.fertilityfriend.com has some good software to make it easy.
Good luck with your trying!

How do you know when you're ovulating?? I came off the injection in November last year, and this month had my first period since November 05 (when I went on the injection). It was really light and short, so how can I find out if I am ovulating?? It's all so confusing!

Arohanui stress for me usually makes my period spacings smaller but it could easily be a late period (due to stress or just something we don't know) or you may be pregnant but it's too early to show up on the test. I'd give it another week.

Thanks for your thoughts - I haven't tried charting as we aren't officially trying..
Still no AF, now it's been 8 days since it was due. I'm just waiting.
I'm a bit at a loss of what to do cos I don't want to make a big deal about something that may just be my body getting used to being off the pill. I thought it was sorted, but I guess it may have tricked me, and it could be what happened to you Sarah Beth.
TMI but... for the last 3 days I thought I had started AF cos it would feel like I had. But I'd check and it wasn't. It was like extra, uh, discharge down there. Sorry way TMI!!!
Oh and I forgot to say that on the day my AF was due, I had a very light bleeding (just spotting really) that I thought was it starting, but then nothing eventuated from it.
I did another test on Thursday night (now I have none left, oops) cos of this, plus I looked at my boobs and they looked bigger (DH agreed.. weird). I'm sorry for the TMI but I'm just really curious and wondering if its just hormones cos I've had 3 BFN!! Cos apart from these things, my body doesn't really feel any different.
The tests I did said I could do them anytime... is it worth actually doing it first thing in the morning? And why is that? Last time I got Clearblue or something but this time I got First Response (the pee in a cup one) cos it was cheaper.
I was gonna go to the doc but I can't go til after pay day next week, plus its so hard fitting it in around work.
I'm just getting so impatient!
Help!!

when I fell pregnant I suspected I was because I did have a very big increase in discharge. You are right though, it could be your body getting used to not being on the pill.
First morning pee is best as it contains the higher concentration of HCG which is wha they test for.

When you came off the pill SB, did you have an increase in discharge then? Like when your cycle was against the norm?
|

Oh man, it sure sounds possible that you are pregnant but with 3 BFNs? That's really weird. I wonder if you ovulated late in your cycle so the tests you have done are then too early to show up. Sounds like a trip to the Doc would be the best thing.

Arohanui I had exactly the same thing, 3 negative tests, no AF, aching boobies, and alot of discharge. I then tested around 10-12 days (for memory) after AF was due and got a BFP! Then I went and tested again because I still couldn't believe the result and got another BFP! So I guess its just a waiting game, as annoying I know it is!

Wow Peachy I wonder if it is going to turn out like yours... I have the same symptoms except I don't have aching boobs, they just look bigger! I'm not really well-endowed
And busymum yeah I agree it is weird and I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so!
So the waiting game.... I'm not very patient with this sort of thing, I just want to know. I keep thinking, man, what if I am preggy!?
I'm in at work today, the only one here, so I spent a while disctracting myself with paperwork, but now I am the one being distracted by my own wonderings!!
Thanks for your comments and I will keep you updated as to what happens..

Good luck.

Thanks my2angels.. I'm in Auckland, so I'm not too sure. Is it true that if it's positive you don't have to pay for it, but if it's negative you do?
I was thinking of getting bloods done, does that show up earlier than the pee test?
|
Posted By: my2angels
Date Posted: 24 March 2007 at 3:00pm
I would think they would suggest bloods anyway with you being so late.
Ive had a neg and not had to pay. I just had to make an appt with the nurse rather than doctor. Anything maternity is covered anyway. Thats in christchurch but im sure one of the auckland ladies will be able to tell you if its the same up there.

The spotting is also a chance of either implantation which would mean you ovulated later than predicted....or you may have just ovulated...
Good luck

Arohanui I am in Auckland and the doc said anything pregnancy related for me is free, he just gave me a few preggy tests to take home with me for the next few weeks. He did say it was too early to test bloods and turns out I was 3 weeks pregnant when I finally got the BFP (had to go for a dating scan to find out when I had conceived though)!
I too thought the missed AF was stress as I had just had my wedding! Even the doc suspected stress, until the BFP! Turns out I fell pregnant the week leading up to the wedding - what a shock!!

OK so I'm so impatient with this.. I just really want to know one way or the other.
AF was due 9 days ago. I'm think I'm going to wait until Weds (it will be 12 days overdue) and then if still nothing, will test again.
Is that the right thing to be doing?! This is doing my head in!!! I can't think of anything else.......

it must be so frustrating for you waiting for either AF or a BFP!! argh! you havent been to the doctor yet for a blood test? i think that would be what i'd do. goodluck hope that it is a positive and your just someone that takes ages for it to show.

Hi arohanui, I live in Akl and my doc told me that I'd have to pay for the first appt to confirm pregnancy then all other appts after that were free. so it's sounds like they all vary.
Just wondering if a more sensitive test would show anything up. I've read on another website that the "Discover" pregnancy tests are slightly more sensitive than the others available. Available from pharmacies I think.
http://www.everybody.co.nz/page-260f3f55-cc55-4495-87bd-7cd7b7d09563.aspx - http://www.everybody.co.nz/page-260f3f55-cc55-4495-87bd-7cd7b7d09563.aspx
Although for the price of more preg tests, you'd probably be better just to make an appt with the doctor for a blood test. At least you can be sure about it then.
Good luck

Thanks for your support ladies yeah I'm about to explode
I haven't been to the doc yet cos it's been the weekend and my normal one is shut (don't really want to wait ages at A&E). Plus I thought I read somewhere that if I am the type of person that it just takes ages to show (cos levels aren't high enough yet), it's not necessarily gonna show on a blood test either?
I bought another 3 pack of tests last night so that I could test this morning, and they weren't too expensive ($12). That is the last lot I am buying.
I honestly thought it was going to be positive! I will be quite guttered if, at the end of all this, it was just my hormones being messed up and AF is either just really late or skipped.
So yeah... I will go to the doc on Weds if nothing has happened I think. Cos you're right Amber, for the cost of another test I may as well go to the doctor!

I'm just waiting - still no AF, and tested yesterday morning (Mon), BFN again.
I've been flat out at work so haven't had time to go to the doctors, but am planning to go tomorrow afternoon.
I will keep you updated.. DH and I have talked about it and he thinks I'm preggie. I just don't know any more. I'm trying to tell myself that I'm not, and I'm just super stressed or my body is messed up. Cos that way, I won't be as disappointed when I find out.
AF will be 12 days overdue tomorrow.

Bad news.
Did another pee test at the doctor and again it was negative. He said that cos I'd done so many tests, I couldn't be pregnant (unless it is an eptopic pregnancy, which he thought was highly unlikely) and that this period is probably just skipped due to stress.
He said there is no reason to do a blood test as the only thing it would tell us would be if it was an eptopic pregnancy, which is probably highly unlikely anyway. He said if I was pregnant, it would have showed up on the pee test.
So it's a negative.
Onward and upwards.

Thanks. I am disappointed and pissed off
Am supposed to be going out tonight but I really don't feel like it, so think I will pull a sicky.
And DH is working late too. But he did come to the doctors appointment which I wasn't expecting, and it was such a support having him there. Also it meant I didn't have to then tell him everything again.
It's just made me a bit down really, it would have been fine if I only got my AF on time.
And now I'm worried about how stressed I am.

I don't want to give false hope, but some women do take longer to get a result - I'm one of them!
It doesn't matter how many tests I do, I do not get a BFP until at I'm at least 13 days late. With Josiah, I tested every second day for 2 weeks until I was 12 days late. Each one was negative. In frustration I did a test on day 13, positive! I had something similar with Xavier, although I had a better idea what was going on so I didn't test as often Scans confirmed with both boys that even though a HPT didn't come back as positive straight away, my dates were right.

Yes you're right, I am so very to have such a supportive husband and I told him this numerous times last night! It was such a nice surprise getting the text from him saying he was gonna meet me at the clinic.
Daikini, well that puts a bit of a new spin on things doesn't it. About half an hour ago, before I came on here and read your message, I was thinking how nauceous (sp?) I was feeling, and considering going home.
I figure it could either be stress/tiredness, or I'm coming down with some sort of a bug, or I'm one of those people who it doesn't show up til late. But does morning sickness start this early anyway? Cos if it doesn't, I know I can rule that out.
But the thing that gets me, is that if it was that way with you (BFP not showing up til later), surely there must be a small percentage of women for whom it's the same? And surely doctors would know that? Cos mine was very straight up and down, I'd done 6 tests and made it 7 with the one there, there was no way I could be pregnant with that number of BFN and AF being 12 days overdue.
Anyway.. thanks heaps everyone for your kind thoughts and words.

Stress is the number 1 contraception it can stop you ovulating and maybe thats what you could be looking at? That you may not have ovulated? I myself am staring down a 41 day cycle but thats normal for me. Just always wondered and the first thing came to mind is if you have actually ovulated.
Are your cycles normally long or are they pretty bang on? I cant remember how long you have been off the pill aswell that could be a factor...
Sorry to hear it wasnt the news that you wanted.
|
Posted By: arohanui
Date Posted: 30 March 2007 at 12:49pm
I'm not sure if I have ovulated - I came off the pill at the end of last November I think it was. Since then, my AF was bang on 28 days each time.
I asked the doctor about this, cos I was worried it might mean me having problems conceiving in the future, but he said that because I had my AF regularly 3 times that he thought it was fine.
So I'm really not sure..

Could be a long cycle and that you ovulated late. One way to check is tomorrow when you wake (this is kinda cheating and i dont recommend it) Take your temp as soon as you wake before you get outta bed and PM me with it and ill let you know what i think Make sure u use a BBT thermometer.

It's definately disappointing Arohanui, but try not to dwell on it.
Even though it's frustrating a lot of the time, the whole 2WW can be fun in a strange kind of way... like waiting for Santa when you're a kid.
Try to enjoy the journey and stay positive, it's hard at times but you go crazy if you don't see the ironic side. Sometimes I just feel mother nature is playing games with us all.
Good luck for this month. xx
