Hi ladies, been awhile since I have posted anything, long time lurker! Hope this makes sense, struggle making sense at the mo!

Am expecting our 2nd any day now and was just wondering if anyone has any great ideas I haven't thought of for my 22month old DS.

Have got a stash of playdough and colouring things. He can get to snacks and his water bottle if I'm feeding.

Is there anything else?? Maybe there is already a thread someone could point me towards??

TIA

I have a basket that I have dd snacks/drinks a coupleof books, some toys plus water for myself. Means it can be carried where ever you are and you have it handy.

Definitly get a present for your Ds from baby .

I also found things like balloons and bubbles or maybe some new pens or crayons for when you;re feeding help. Maybe puzzles too

Make sure you involve him in baby's care, fetching nappies/wipes helping bath baby ( dd loved this) It made her feel more involved,

no way my 22 mo would get things like that for our baby. I wish!

Umm we got him a pressie from the baby and just the things you've said. He can sit next to me and read and do his shape sorter or puzzles and things like that. We bought him some mainly music dvds we can sing and move to together during feeds (20 mins long so perfect!).

tbh he is going to find it hard, that's the reality. My baby is now 6 weeks and the toddler has been better for about 2 weeks. He just seems to get it now that i have to do this, and maybe has limited memory of what it used to be like before. I make effort to go out in the morning so he gets his run around and play and then the day usually goes quite well. Don't let him get away with naughty behaviour just because the baby is here. I've seen friends do that cos they felt bad and that just leads to more problems.

Awesome thanks for the feedback guys!

Completely forgot about the present from baby, will dip into my pressie stash.

Basket sounds like a great idea! Will remeber that one.

Am bit worried about the behaviour thing, but I figure we will deal with it when the time comes. The little dude has no idea his world is about to be turned upside down! Luckily he is extremely independant, so I'm hoping that will be on my side.

My mum told me that when my brother was born that she would read to me from what ever book I wanted when she was feeding him - it happened to the Peter Rabbit mostly that I chose.

This meant a quiet time for me and feeding time for him.

By the way she knows the Peter Rabbit story by heart and I do too!

i have no experience, but have heard people say to (if possible) get involved with them at the same time... eg sit on the floor with them instead of on the couch... maybe something you can do together like building blocks or colouring...?

good luck!

I wouldn't worry to much until you know the reaction of your child.

I have 22 months between my two and #1 didn't bat an eyelid.

W did the present thing but could probably not have bothered. I was holding #2 when #1 came in and he was unfazed by it.

I really think it depends on your child. We had no regression or anything. #1 could reach all his toys and books and always has a water bottle laying round so no issues there. Occassionaly his behaviour was crappy while feeding but I just stopped and disciplined him and went back to feeding.

I'm with Peanut. DS1 was 20 months when DS2 arrived. I went into hospital in labour after DS1 had gone to bed at about 6.30pm and we were home by 5am the next morning so DS2 was already in the house before DS1 woke up

He has never been an issue, we also did the present thing but may as well not bothered as he didn't get that it was from the "bubba". He is also really good at getting me things that I need when I am feeding DS2 and can't get up - but he is also at daycare so apart from the first 3 weeks which were over Christmas and I had DH home anyway - his life has pretty much carried on as normal.

We have had more "Mama do" comments to things but he is generally happy for his father to do it instead
