Hi,

We have just started solids in the last week or so with ds and it is all good.

I am being really careful with introducing foods and not letting him have too much.

He hadn't had a bm in over 2 days and finally went tonight but it was a big solid lump.

I have been giving him fruit and baby rice for tea, and sweet potato for lunch.

He seems just fine though, but just wondering what I can do to make sure things keep moving.

Kiwifruit is good but I never used that with Jack. I boiled up some prunes (or you could use sultanas or raisins) and put a small amount of the liquid, maybe 1/2 tsp into his food. I used to just freeze the small amounts as this seemed easier

The other thing is that his digestive system is dealing with a lot of changes might just take a few weeks for everything to come right. Apple juice in cool boiled water works well too.

Water! It's amazing the difference an extra drink makes. And yep, prune juice can be added to it (makes it sweet so they like the taste, and we all know what prune juice does anyway!). But I just give plain boiled water.

Caden does hard lumps sometimes aswell, I just make sure he is driking plenty of water and lots of fruit.
He has kiwifruit for lunch somedays and that helps keep him regular.
When he first started solids he had a few times where he would do little hard pebble poo's, Its just them ajusting to the new diet.

If i get some prunes and boil them, can I add that to his fruit - is it just the juice he needs?

Fi, I have made prune juice for Jackson. Basically boiled up some prunes till nice and soft, then pushed them through a strainer to get all the juice out. I just give him 3ml in a small syringe a couple of times a day if I think he needs it. He likes it too.

I've no experience with this yet but have started reading a bit in preperation.   Is he a bit young maybe? The books (yes, the dreaded know it all books) suggest that some bubs digestive systems take a little longer to be ready for solids? Like I said, i've no experience so just an idea.

I did wonder if he was young, but he just loves it, if ever we are eating he wants it, he just opens his mouth - its cute really.

I think he was fine with fruit, but I introduced sweet potato and that seems to have done it. Sticking with fruit for now.

Its so hard to know, he was showing all the signs for solids, drinking so much milk etc....

Ava is constipated on her solids too. I read to stay away from the BRAT foods - Bananas, Rice, Apples and Toast. Apple sauce is BAD for constipation but Apple JUICE is good for getting rid of constipation.

Ive been giving Ava extra water with some prune juice (Sunsweet brand, doesnt have anything added to it) and she has been eating pears

BTW there is nothing wrong with giving him solids after 4 months if he is showing all of the signs. Even the Watties jars of food say 4-6 months and I have read that if you wait until 6 months it increases fussiness with food and makes it harder for them to get used to textures. He'll be fine :)

Awesome Denny thanks!!!!!!

I did not know about the apple sauce being something that constipates them - I have been mainly feeding apples, we will now move to pears.
