my doctor has put me on early maternity leave. i am 24 weeks so it is quite a bit earlier than expected. has anyone else been on early leave? i will be ringing ird or whoever it is to sort out my payments but what do you need to know and how are the payments worked out etc....
I'm pretty sure if you are eligible for PPL you can get it early with a med certificate and yet still be entitled to a certain number of weeks after bubs is born. ....ie you get more than everyone else does.
It was a few years ago now but a friend of mind had to go on early maternity leave and she went on to the sickness benefit, not sure if she was entitled to PPL after that though?? Sorry I'm not much help!
You are still entitled to 8 weeks maternity leave after the birth if it's your doctor or midwife who has directed you to start your leave early. But I'm not sure how the payments are calculated. I would give the Dept of Labour a call - 0800 209020.
Did you find out your answer? I would think that going on the Sickness Benefit in the meantime would probably help the maternity leave last as long as it needs to - but I don't have any experience here, sorry.
If it is becuse of medical reasons you could see if you can get the sickness benefit (your partners wages will be factered in). I was told that you couldn't go on PPl until 6 weeks before your due date (that may have changed in 2 years since I got PPL).
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!
hmm that would cause me trouble as my husband makes quite a lot but we also have a big mortgage and bills to match so hopefully that is not the case. i have sent an online inquiry to IRD today and they will be back to me within 5 working days so ill hold out ill then. such a pain in the bum. lol
