I'm pretty sure if you are eligible for PPL you can get it early with a med certificate and yet still be entitled to a certain number of weeks after bubs is born. ....ie you get more than everyone else does.

Check out the department of labour website or give them a call. Not sure how it works with early leave but all the info will be here. Good Luck!

You are still entitled to 8 weeks maternity leave after the birth if it's your doctor or midwife who has directed you to start your leave early. But I'm not sure how the payments are calculated. I would give the Dept of Labour a call - 0800 209020.

(edited to add the DOL number)

Did you find out your answer? I would think that going on the Sickness Benefit in the meantime would probably help the maternity leave last as long as it needs to - but I don't have any experience here, sorry.

If it is becuse of medical reasons you could see if you can get the sickness benefit (your partners wages will be factered in). I was told that you couldn't go on PPl until 6 weeks before your due date (that may have changed in 2 years since I got PPL).
