Topic: The total pregnancy ultrasound package! Posted: 01 December 2008 at 3:48pm |
Just thought some of you might be interested in this...
Insight Radiology (North Shore & Parnell) have bought out a Pregnancy Ultrasound Package.
Its a one off payment of $220.00 and covers all of the scans you will have during pregnancy (they all have to be referred though).
You get to see the bubs in 4D at each and every scan and you get two DVDs (one at Nuchal one and Anomoly stage)
I also asked if you could have the DVDs at another stage (as we arent having the nuchal) and they said it was fine.
With Isabelle I ended up having about 8 scans and spent a fortune .. so this time I'm going with the package!

Where I go in Hamilton, its free for any scans under 12 weeks. Then after that they are $35. And you get a dvd with any scan you get. But no 3D scans....which I personally think some make the baby look ugly so it didn't worry me not having one lol.
So if you just had the standard scans at nucal and 20 weeks its only $70 anyway.
But thats in Hamilton....

Off the top of my head it was $60.00 for "normal scan" and about $180.00 for 3D scans.
I forked out three lots of $180.00 last time (although they are all covered by my southern cross) my dating scan was free .. and we didnt have a nuchal but that was going to be another $60.00
So this time Im doing the package (even though I get all the money back from health insurance)

When I went to Insight last time it was $95 for the 3D scans where you got a CD and about $65 for the normal ones with no CD. 4D was more.
It's a good deal! Insight are expensive normally but they are among the best and most exact out there.

Last time I had to have an US (non preggie) they charged me $220! I was horrified. I know horizon in Akl does them for free but wasn't sure about other places.

4d is when you see the bub moving .. 3D is a still picture of the 4d image
So the DVD will show a video and that is what they class as 4D
3D is this ....

My ticker is in 1D as its flat?!? (or so I think anyway)
I didnt really know what 4D was until I spoke to the people at Insight, so hopefully Im not spouting a load of sh*t
But I recall she said 4D was seeing the baby move in real time .. so I just assumed (although I shouldnt) that a still picture captured of the event would be 3D

its so confusing isnt it.. I think 2D is a flat picture (the 2 dimensions being horizontal and vertical) 3D is how we see the world and 4D (IMO is marketing bollocks cos they cant come up with a better name ) But its all cool and I've never been able to get a 3D/4D scan so I am just jealous!!!
Foxxyone.....in chch its was $50 earlier this year so its going up...but they only charge $15 for a DVD of ALL your scans and they recommend getting it at the anatomy one and they will put all the previous scans on too. Thats cool

Maths lesson girlies:
A straight thin line = 1 dimension (it only exists on 1 axis, eg X or Y)
A square = 2 dimensions (it exists on 2 axis, X & Y)
A cube = 3 dimensions (it exists on 3 axis, X, Y & Z)
Your general, everyday ultrasound (the black & white ones) are 2D
lilfatty's picture up there is a 3D image
4D is a load of rubbish really, BUT, they are calling it that as they are classifying TIME as the 4th dimension (seeing the baby move around in the 3D environment, you can not have a photo of this, only a video, because as soon as you make it still, your back to a 3D image).
edit to add - My scan at Horizon was free, but the DVD of the scan cost $30. My 8 week scan at Auckland Radiology was $25

I wonder if it is worth us looking at this package, as I have already paid a $30 charge for an early tv / dating scan, and still have the nuchal and anatomy scans to go (at Insight). Will have to talk to DH!
