Just thought some of you might be interested in this...

Insight Radiology (North Shore & Parnell) have bought out a Pregnancy Ultrasound Package.

Its a one off payment of $220.00 and covers all of the scans you will have during pregnancy (they all have to be referred though).

You get to see the bubs in 4D at each and every scan and you get two DVDs (one at Nuchal one and Anomoly stage)

I also asked if you could have the DVDs at another stage (as we arent having the nuchal) and they said it was fine.

With Isabelle I ended up having about 8 scans and spent a fortune .. so this time I'm going with the package!

Where I go in Hamilton, its free for any scans under 12 weeks. Then after that they are $35. And you get a dvd with any scan you get. But no 3D scans....which I personally think some make the baby look ugly so it didn't worry me not having one lol.
So if you just had the standard scans at nucal and 20 weeks its only $70 anyway.
But thats in Hamilton....

Off the top of my head it was $60.00 for "normal scan" and about $180.00 for 3D scans.

I forked out three lots of $180.00 last time (although they are all covered by my southern cross) my dating scan was free .. and we didnt have a nuchal but that was going to be another $60.00

So this time Im doing the package (even though I get all the money back from health insurance)

When I went to Insight last time it was $95 for the 3D scans where you got a CD and about $65 for the normal ones with no CD. 4D was more.

It's a good deal! Insight are expensive normally but they are among the best and most exact out there.

Last time I had to have an US (non preggie) they charged me $220! I was horrified. I know horizon in Akl does them for free but wasn't sure about other places.

Sorry meant to say 4D scans are $100....I dont even know what 4D is!

4d is when you see the bub moving .. 3D is a still picture of the 4d image

So the DVD will show a video and that is what they class as 4D

3D is this ....

I thought 4D was what you have posted and 3D was what's in your ticker

Now I'm all confuzzled.

My ticker is in 1D as its flat?!? (or so I think anyway)

I didnt really know what 4D was until I spoke to the people at Insight, so hopefully Im not spouting a load of sh*t

But I recall she said 4D was seeing the baby move in real time .. so I just assumed (although I shouldnt) that a still picture captured of the event would be 3D

its so confusing isnt it..  I think 2D is a flat picture (the 2 dimensions being horizontal and vertical) 3D is how we see the world and 4D (IMO is marketing bollocks cos they cant come up with a better name)  But its all cool and I've never been able to get a 3D/4D scan so I am just jealous!!!

Foxxyone.....in chch its was $50 earlier this year so its going up...but they only charge $15 for a DVD of ALL your scans and they recommend getting it at the anatomy one and they will put all the previous scans on too.  Thats cool

Maths lesson girlies:
A straight thin line = 1 dimension (it only exists on 1 axis, eg X or Y)
A square = 2 dimensions (it exists on 2 axis, X & Y)
A cube = 3 dimensions (it exists on 3 axis, X, Y & Z)

Your general, everyday ultrasound (the black & white ones) are 2D
lilfatty's picture up there is a 3D image
4D is a load of rubbish really, BUT, they are calling it that as they are classifying TIME as the 4th dimension (seeing the baby move around in the 3D environment, you can not have a photo of this, only a video, because as soon as you make it still, your back to a 3D image).

edit to add - My scan at Horizon was free, but the DVD of the scan cost $30. My 8 week scan at Auckland Radiology was $25

I wonder if it is worth us looking at this package, as I have already paid a $30 charge for an early tv / dating scan, and still have the nuchal and anatomy scans to go (at Insight). Will have to talk to DH!

I paid $90 for the nuchal scan and $90 fo rthe 20 week scan through Insight so I guess $220 isn't too bad (for them). Do you get the 3/4d photos?

Insight is rated as one of if not the best for accuracy and clarity.

I'm not sure if I will use them next time to be honest as I hate moaning but I found them extremely rude. You think since you are paying them so much money they would be nice! But I must say the scans are extremely clear so thats what is more important rather than the bedside manner.

Gosh I didn't pay anything for the scan's I had for Jack (20wk and 30-something to check the plactena moved up), can't remember if we paid for the video of the 20wk.

Had a 5w5d scan with this baby to check ectopic and that was free as well. Not sure if I have to pay for my 12wk with this baby.

I can't believe that you guys all have to pay for scans!! There has never been any mention of paying for scans up here - I had 2 with Luke and have had one so far with #2. We got a DVD with both and a small print out...

Must be the Northland District Health Board...

See I got told that the black and white ones were 3D because the 3rd dimension was the sound (heartbeat) which is why I'm all confused. But I agree it really is all marketing bollocks and bears little resemblance to the mathematical actuality .

Star the head honcho at Nth Shore Insight is renowned for being rude but he is also apparently the best radiographer in NZ. Did you get the guy? The girls were all nice when I had them and the guys was ok but a bit brusque. But he was really rude to a few of my friends. Guess it depends what day you get him on.

South and Central Auckland scans are cheaper than North Shore. South is the cheapest out of the areas - my friend who lives in Papakura only paid $25 too.

Typical, I had my 20 week scan on the 21st! LOL. I have calmed down about it now! They dont always show the 4D either... I was told this when I first went at 10 weeks and only one room has the 4D machine so make sure you mention it to them when you book or you may end up in the other room (this is at takapuna).

melnel .. at Insight in Parnell all their machines are 3d capable.

Sheza .. I paid $60.00 at Ascot ... I could have gone to Horizon for free .. but I've always gone to Ascot so I know where it is lol

However Insight is about a 10 min walk from my work so this time I planned to go there.

There are cheaper places on the shore but Insight have a good reputation so thats why alot of people use it.   They all should really be free though.

Our last scan was a nightmare!.
Our midwife booked an emergency scan on the phone so we drove straight there.   The receptionist spat the dummy as the midwife didn't give us a form and was going to cancel the scan! Then I had the guy who was so rude! He totally ignored us when we came in the room and continued reading on his computer and drinking his coffee. Minutes later he came over to us and did the scan. DH had steam coming out of his ears lol!
Then we went to pay and we were getting charged for a 4D scan when we didn't even ask for it! So I then argued about that saying that he just did it, didn't give us the option and I thought it must have been normal for an overdue scan.
It all turned out in the end but not good when you are as big as a house with lots of hormones lol!

Lol that was my experience at Insight too with that guy.. except after sipping away at his coffee for a few mins he picked up his cell and called his wife re. their dinner that night! He didn't say much during the actual scan tho.. but he got some great pics of our baby's face in 3d

ETA ~ That was my 20wk scan, the first scan I had during my pregnancy. The next scan I went to Horizon Sylvia Park where I was expecting a 3d but the woman only did a normal 2d scan, when I questioned her she said she didn't have time to do 3d Next time I will just go back to Insight, yay for the package! It all adds up huh
