Do you leave the curtains open or shut them for your littlies day sleeps?

I can't remember what I did with Hannah. I had been leaving Greers open but this morning cos it was so cold I left it all shut up and heater on and she went to sleep really really easy.

On the sleep store website they say to shut the curtains, and I noticed when I started doing this with Harry that he slept better

Until recently I left them open and had no problems, but we were away for Easter and he was in a dark room and slept really well (especially considering he was in a unfamliar portacot), so now I've started shutting them. The room is still fairly light though.

Both Paige and Blake have/had curtains shut....but in saying that its pretty light as we have those silly verticals anyway.......

Neither of them have been affected by Daylight savings either...Yay fingers crossed for next one!

We have been closing the curtains too & haven't had any problems. My hope is that Liam knows it's time for sleep when he gets wrapped & I take him into his dark room.

I did hear somewhere that you should leave them open so that baby learns to sleep in places where it's not dark???

I leave Megan's blinds open during the day and close them at night havent had any problems with her sleeping during the day. I wanted her to learn that day sleeps are her short sleeps and night sleeps (when blind is closed) is her big sleep.

I do the same as MegansMum. Sleeps during the day with curtains open and night with shut as I wanted him to know the difference and haven't had any probs. Also wanted him to sleep anywhere so figured leaving blinds open and slept all his day sleeps in the lounge until about 8 weeks would help with that.
Now he sleeps anywhere!

I used to always leave Isla's open in the day cos I thought you should to teach them day from night,..but when we went to the Mothercraft unit at Waikato hospital when she was 4 months old to get some help with her feeding and sleeping, they said to always close them. She slept way way better then!

I always close the curtains when it's time for K to sleep, so now she knows the difference between play time and sleep time We had major issues with day time sleeping in the beginning because she decided she didn't want to be wrapped anymore, so whenever it came time to move her she'd fling her arms out and wake herself.. but we have started wrapping her for her daytime naps again (one arm out) and it works a charm for settling her down She doesn't get wrapped at night because she goes to bed awake and self soothes plus she's in a Safe T Sleep and the wrap just gets in the way

I think I closed them with Hannah, to differentiate dark for sleep, light for play. And I was doing the same with Greer, but one day the midwife came and said it was mean so I stopped. But now, two sleeps in a row she's gone down no problem at all and she's not stirring all the time. Must be helping. Thanks everyone!

We close them - and always say "Goodbye Mr Sunshine - see you soon!" and then when he wakes up and we open them we say "Hello Mr Sunshine"....they arent black out curtains so its pretty light anyway, but think it helps for him to know that its sleeping time rather than awake time.

We leave ours open - seems to work as jack has short sleeps during the day and sleeps 12 hours at night so I'm not changing anything no matter what! I guess you just do what works, if one thing doesn't, you try another! It's what this motherhood thing is all about afterall, trial and error..

Once day and night seemed established, and we moved her day sleeps to her room we started darkening the room for day sleeps.

I did what megansmum does with Maya, and had no probs so did the same with the gremlins but I started having probs with their day sleeps around 5 mths and The Sleep Store recommended closing their curtains so I tried it and they sleep heaps better now.
