Topic: gymbaroo, jumping beans, anyone tried???? Posted: 13 February 2008 at 10:19am |
I'm thinking of enrolling Tom in one of these as he is SOOOOOOOOOOO active and I think it might be good for me (I mean him) to get out and do more things.
Any experiences to comment on??????

Yes we are on our second term of jumping beans and love it. Especially now as he is very interactive with all the activities. When younger he just kind of stared at them but didn't get involved much.
Jumping beans are doing classes in North Canterbury now as well (I think at clarkville, but its on their website). Also you can go along for a free try to see if you like it.
Swimming is good as well but you have probably left it too late to book lessons unless you have a pool at amberley. To get a place I am having to go to pioneer at 8.45am (it took me over an hour in traffic to get to it this week ), still worth it though.

yeah, would love to do swimming but havent got togs myself and cant face trying them on....would have to do something with the bikini line (not that doing that would be a bad thing....) We "swim" in the bath and he loves it!
Yes, it is in clarkville. What type of "bean" is spencer?

He is just a baby bean I did talk to the lady about going to crawler beans but she thinks that as the kids are really full on in that it is better to wait until they can really get about. She did say they can go up a class mid term if they are ready.

then Tom will be a baby bean too. In Gymbaroo they have a creepers/crawlers class and I thinking creeping is a good description of Tom.

I would defintely recommend Jumping Beans, we do it as well and Sam loves it!
I also say stick with the Baby class. We have just done our first crawler class today and Sam is so not ready for it. The kids are really full on, and most of them are walking. The babies just tend to get kicked and tripped over.
I am changing her back to the baby class until she is big enough to fend for herself!!

I go to the parklands one as it is half way between me and my friend, plus last term they didn't do Clarkville. The parklands one is on at 12.45 on Tuesdays, don't know if that is too far for you to go.

Ok at the risk of sounding totally ignorant can you give me a rundown on what Jumping beans is exactly? ...Sounds rather intriguing...

I think basically the concept is learning/development through exercise.
They have different classes, so there is baby beans, crawler beans, and then runner beans (I think).
At baby beans we spend some time at the start of a class sitting in a circle and doing some interactive songs and manipulation of their limbs and massage. And then we go around the various apparatus, in baby beans it is focused around new sounds/textures and promoting tummy time and learning safe ways to climb down (cos they learn to climb up without help) and roll. Each fortnight they have a new theme as well. So we have done bugs and then a christmas theme and have started back with relationships.
Oh and by the way sitting in a circle and singing is way out of my comfort zone but what they do isn't that bad as it is mostly just doing the actions to the song which is being played on cd player.

If you don't mind me asking Chch ladies, how much is it? I'm intrigued now... Must contemplate it for when Jackson's a bit older. And to think about swimming lessons. So much to do!
Cuppatea - we live right down the road from Pioneer So good to know they have baby swimming classes there!

Jumping beans was $115 for the term (I think that is 10 sessions) but they have a casual price as well which I think is $16 a go.
Swimming lessons were $67.5 for 9, which I think is really good. (make sure you book up early with the swim lessons)

If you go through paft swimming lessons are free. Aldo with swimming lessons you can always just take them yourself and have a play, its $2 at qe2 for you and bubs and you can leave if they aren't into that day.
Mainly music is another good one, theres lots of running around while singing and dancing and is only $2 a turn as well.

we are doing a free day tomorrow at jumpingbeans. I am a bit worried as the lady said they have no other little bubbas at the moment that can go to the normal time so they have put him in with toddlers and crawlers! I dont think this will be value for money but I will have a look tomorrow and then if I am not happy we might go further afield.

Check out your local libraries too - they can offer a range of things, from story time with an active component to music and movement based classes. And they are free :)

Miss, I am slowly getting into stuff in the community. We only moved here in December and its a small town. I was used to a baby time thing at my library before. Here we have something called Frisky Feet which starts next week and is a music and dance thing. It is $2 and held just down my road....FANTASTIC.
Cant wait. I need some excitement in my life.

We love gymbaroo!!
Have never tried jumping beans so can't compare them but gymbaroo is great.
They have a large room split off into 2 sections, the first section is full of playground stuff (slides, trampoline, monkey bars, swings, tunnels etc) and the second is empty. The kids play in the playground part initially until the bubble machine starts on the other side which is their call to go over there. We then all sit in a circle and do the hello song and some other songs and actions then they pull out the word for the day (encouraging children to relate written words to objects) then each child gets something from the 'treasure bag' (i.e. if the word of the day is teddy bear you take along you babies teddy bear and when it's pulled out they get it). Then it's time to play in the playground again followed by more songs and actions and the goodbye song.
It's so much fun!
