Topic: OMG!! theres something wrong with him!!! Posted: 26 June 2007 at 5:19pm |
I have just had a phone call from my MW regarding my scan results as she had not yet recieved them when i had my appointment at 2pm this avo and the scan results say that my wee man has an abnormal liver!!!! firstly im extremely pissed off!! at the scan place for not only NOT telling me when she picked it up in the first place but also not sending my MW the results ASAP!!!
So my MW is waiting for the OB to get out of surgery so she can make an appointment for tommorow and if he is concerned then il be induced sometime within the week.
OMG! she told me not to worry but how can i not!! i had a feeling that there was something more to his abnormally large tummy that they keep on picking up!!
Has anyone else been through this or know of anyone????
I asked my MW if she has delt with this before and in all her 20 yrs as a MW she hasnt!! which worries me even more!! .....

Hey Amber, big big hugs.
what a thing to be going through. I would like to say that the scan people are not allowed to tell you anything about your scan unless its the sex.
When i was 38wks pregnant my scan person told me my baby had stopped growing and was only 35 wks, when i told the midwife this, she went absoutley nuts...apparently they are not trained to give out details like that so are not allowed too.
im not going to tell you not to worry cos you will anyway, as we all would
just know that we are here, and good luck for tomorrow

dont know what to say except try not too worry to much till the dr has spoken to you and can give you some definite facts etc... he's made it this far ok and now they know of a potential problem they will be on top of it.

thanks ladies im really hoping that hes just got no reason and has a slightly enlarged liver that will correct itself by birth....but i guess thats over hopeful!
Now i just feel really down cos what was meant to be a really happy time is now overshadowed by the worry that he may have a serious problem!

I dont think that is over hopeful Baysmum. I think that is being realistic and calm in a stressful situation. Baby's are born with "little problems" all the time and he might just need some extra care when he is born. It may not be so serious.
It is weird how we worry so much about our unborn babies but remember a normal baby can develop an illness when its older and we just deal with it.
Try not to worry till you have ALL the facts...in fact dont worry till you see the little guy. I'm thinking positive thoughts for you.

Well you were hoping to get him out early
But seriously, if it has taken this long to pick up, my guess is that it's not going to be hugely serious and the fact that they have picked it up means they can help him out. All the best for tomorrow - at least you'll get some answers quickly
catrad, you only get a scan closer to 40 weeks if your LMC refers you for a specific concern: growing too fast/slow, suspected breech, follow up on something picked up earlier, etc.

Thinking of you Amber, I know it's a silly thing to say but do try not to worry!
They picked up my Sienna's dodgy kidney on ultrasound before she was born and we had a paed present at the birth, excellent follow up with the specialists and she is quite obviously very healthy and well now!
I will be thinking of you and your wee man, Kellz even suggested the gremlins and Maya and I might come visit you all soon so hang in there!

big hugs
Jake had an enlarged kidney at scans, but at birth, no problems whatsoever. had a scan at 6 weeks, and was fine, so hopefully that will the case with your little guy!

Im sure everything will turn out fine for you and baby.
My friend was told her baby had 2 large growths on it half way through her preg and was given extra care for the rest of her preg and when he was born there was only one growth and it was pretty minor not the big scare they had worked her up for.
Either way its probably good they picked it up now so you can get the extra care and keep it all under control early.
Good Luck
