I have just had a phone call from my MW regarding my scan results as she had not yet recieved them when i had my appointment at 2pm this avo and the scan results say that my wee man has an abnormal liver!!!! firstly im extremely pissed off!! at the scan place for not only NOT telling me when she picked it up in the first place but also not sending my MW the results ASAP!!!
So my MW is waiting for the OB to get out of surgery so she can make an appointment for tommorow and if he is concerned then il be induced sometime within the week.

OMG! she told me not to worry but how can i not!! i had a feeling that there was something more to his abnormally large tummy that they keep on picking up!!

Has anyone else been through this or know of anyone????
I asked my MW if she has delt with this before and in all her 20 yrs as a MW she hasnt!! which worries me even more!! .....

Hey Amber, big big hugs.

what a thing to be going through. I would like to say that the scan people are not allowed to tell you anything about your scan unless its the sex.

When i was 38wks pregnant my scan person told me my baby had stopped growing and was only 35 wks, when i told the midwife this, she went absoutley nuts...apparently they are not trained to give out details like that so are not allowed too.

im not going to tell you not to worry cos you will anyway, as we all would

just know that we are here, and good luck for tomorrow

dont know what to say except try not too worry to much till the dr has spoken to you and can give you some definite facts etc... he's made it this far ok and now they know of a potential problem they will be on top of it.

thanks ladies im really hoping that hes just got no reason and has a slightly enlarged liver that will correct itself by birth....but i guess thats over hopeful!

Now i just feel really down cos what was meant to be a really happy time is now overshadowed by the worry that he may have a serious problem!

Posted By: peanut butter
Date Posted: 26 June 2007 at 6:14pm
I dont think that is over hopeful Baysmum. I think that is being realistic and calm in a stressful situation. Baby's are born with "little problems" all the time and he might just need some extra care when he is born. It may not be so serious.

It is weird how we worry so much about our unborn babies but remember a normal baby can develop an illness when its older and we just deal with it.

Try not to worry till you have ALL the facts...in fact dont worry till you see the little guy. I'm thinking positive thoughts for you.

Amber, sorry to hear about this...has me a bit worried myself now, given that my wee girl has a 'large' stomach too, and as of this morning, my MW still hadn't received all of my scan results

Thinking of you, and here's hoping its nothing to worry about it (although I know you will). Good luck for tomorrow.

does everyone get a scan closer to 40wks???? i had around 10 scans with my daughter as they thought she was small 4 dates and they thought she had something wrong with a heart valve, also the scan person told me this and my midwife went nuts as they wernt allowd to tell me that.

Well you were hoping to get him out early

But seriously, if it has taken this long to pick up, my guess is that it's not going to be hugely serious and the fact that they have picked it up means they can help him out. All the best for tomorrow - at least you'll get some answers quickly

catrad, you only get a scan closer to 40 weeks if your LMC refers you for a specific concern: growing too fast/slow, suspected breech, follow up on something picked up earlier, etc.

Thinking of you Amber, I know it's a silly thing to say but do try not to worry!
They picked up my Sienna's dodgy kidney on ultrasound before she was born and we had a paed present at the birth, excellent follow up with the specialists and she is quite obviously very healthy and well now!
I will be thinking of you and your wee man, Kellz even suggested the gremlins and Maya and I might come visit you all soon so hang in there!

Im sure everything will turn out fine for you and baby.

My friend was told her baby had 2 large growths on it half way through her preg and was given extra care for the rest of her preg and when he was born there was only one growth and it was pretty minor not the big scare they had worked her up for.

Either way its probably good they picked it up now so you can get the extra care and keep it all under control early.

Good Luck

to you Amber. Andrew had heart issues in his first scan. I was only told as the guy doing the scan was the OB that did scans, little did I know later on in the pregnancy he would become my OB.

On the lighter side, you did want to get him out early so this maybe your chance. Fingers crossed he is all ok.

thanks heaps ladies its soooooo nice to come on and read well wishes etc it certainly makes me feel better

Well my MW rung last night and said that she had spoken to one of the specialist who hadnt heard of this before (?????i didnt think it would be uncommon??!!) so he refered her onto another specialist who she then caught up with first thing this morning and rung me at 8.30am to let me know that i have an appointment with the specialist at 3pm this avo and hes gana do bloods, scan and internal.
MW said that even that specialist who has been one for 30 yrs!! hasnt come accross this before!, he also said that it sounds like i got my dates wrong!! which im sure i havnt but im just really confussed now!
He also said it may well be just cos bubs is so big and he would expect his liver to be slightly bigger but thats just speculation!

SO not looking forward to the internal!!! but then in a way i am as they think i may already be doing things for myself! so no need for an induction!

Either way it sounds alot like i may only be on this side of the fence for another week or so!! YAY!!

Il be back on after my app (probably later tonight) to let ya all know what the haps is

Good luck for this afternoon.
Not that it helps but we had lots of issue with enlarged organs etc... because of gestational diabetes. Addisons abdomin was in the 95% for her gestation and they were worried about things like liver, kidneys etc.. which is one of the reasons they induced her but she was sweet.

hi ladies! well its good news so far! firstly the Spec (specialist for further reference ) did a scan and didnt think that there was anything wrong with Astins liver!! but he did think that he was big so he organised for me to be induced on tuesday night ...and then he gave me an internal and low and behold!! im already 2-3cms dialated!!, 70% efaced and -1 engaged (MW said that this is the next level from 5/5!) and MW also picked up some contractions on the monitor that i wasnt really feeling so YAY!! we are already under way!! and the spec doesnt even think il make it to tuesday anyway!! im getting pains now but i think its cos he really had a good feel up there!! MW thinks that him doing an internal will speed things along even further but still told DH and i to go home and have lots of *special cuddles*!! which embarrassed the crap out of DH!! LMAO!!

So Astin will be checked out by all the right people when hes born just to make sure but so far there is nothing to worry about so far..except going into labour!!........is it to late to say that i dont want to go into labour now!!?? *quietly hiberventilates!!*

Thanks ladies! im still in one peice! but i can certainly tell that Astin has dropped down heaps since my spec appointment!! and iv had very irregular light contractions for the past few days not that im too worried as i now know that he has until tuesday to make his own appearance otherwise hes being forced out! LOL!!!
Iv had hardly any movements from him since yesterday - just slow very low movements so hopefully thats a good sign!
i finally packed my hospital bag last night after a mad shopping dash to buy everything yesterday! LOL

Miss - i would worry too much about not getting anywhere as with my first son i was so tightly shut up and sealed in there with him! that i thought he would never come out!! but he was only a short labour from 7am till 4pm and he was out!

I was reading my notes the other day from Bays birth (which in hind sight was such a stupid idea just before having another baby!! as i had blacked out some of the nasty stuff!! ) and the stage that im at now (2-3cms, -1 efaced 70% efaced) i was only at that stage 2 hours before Bay was born! which is a bit freaky and my MW said that if i have any signs then i need to go straight in cos she doesnt even think il last the half hour drive over!! and has even given me intructions and numbers for if he decides to come on the side of the road!!

...now that iv said all this im sure hes going to be a stubborn toad!! and hold out then give me a rough long labour!! *JINX*!!!
