Done, and recived a letter form them. Apparently they want the reciept for buying a parcel post bag. I buy my pacel post bags in bulk and then I just hand them in at the post shop. So how does that work.

A bit late for this situation, but next time ask for a postal receipt.
I do it every time I send something, and ask senders to do the same.
I have had 3 things go missing in the last 18 months. If you have the receipt they pay you the cost of the goods up to $250 I think.

I had a package i sent to Sweden go missing - i had to complete a claim form and send in receipts for the items i sent and the posting receipt form and they refunded all the costs to me.
It seemed quite a striaght forward process, but was made more complicated by the fact i had lost my posting receipt and customs form. Luckily i had paid by eftpos and found the date and time of the transaction on my bank statement and the post office i sent it from printed me a duplicate receipt.
ETA - oh -NZ Post also wrote to the lady in Sweden and asked her to sign a statement saying she had not received the parcel

There are different receipts: one acknowledges that you paid for the pack. The other receipt is a printout (sometimes with a tracking number) that you should be given when you hand it in. Unfortunately though, this is why some parcels are tracked and the cheaper ones aren't
