Hungry Baby ...

Hi Ladies

Our little boy is comming up 2 weeks old this Tuesday, he was bottle fed right from the start on the Nurture formula, when he was around 4-5 days old he was already having 100mls, every 3 and a half hours. Since then he has started to need a top up of 50mls before an hour after each feed, sometimes he goes to 4 hours between feeds but mostly 3 and a half hours. We have put him on the Nurture formula for Hungry babies now and it still dosnt seem to satisfy him, he's still drinking 100mls every 3 and a half hours and then a top up of 50mls about 45 mins after each feed, apart from at night.

Has anyone experienced this before and what did you do ?

He normally drinks all of the bottle and then i offer him another 50mls when he gets abit grizzly after his feed around 45 mins after, he drinks that aswell, but he will only drink untill he is full, but changing the formula to hungry babies hasnt seemed to work anymore then the normal nurture formula he was on before did

Yeah I would say the same thing, would he take 150mls at his usual feed times?

My DS was FF from 2 weeks on and he was always a hungry baby and only now is he starting to even out his feeds and stay fuller for longer.

If he is full at 100ml and then wants more soon after, I guess all you can do is go with it

I havnt offered him 150mls at once yet, ill give it ago at his next feed and see if he takes it

Well for the last two days he's been drinking 150mls at each feed and seems pretty settled, he also has some warm boiled water between feeds, not alot, but enough to take the thirst away lol But what im worried about is soon he will want more then 150mls, and im wondering at what age is it ok to give them a teaspoon of farex, i thought that maybe that would help fill him aswell as the milk ?

Farex isn't recommended for babies under 4 months, because their digestive system isn't developed enough to digest it. It may be worth feeding him more often instead? The girls were on 3 hourly feeds for about 4 1/2 weeks (formula/EBM mix) and then it went to 4 hourly.

Stay away from any solids until after 5 months hun :)

My DS started on formula fulltime at 4 weeks, and he was on 150mls every 2-3 hours, and then by 2 months(ish) was having 200mls every 3 hours.

A newborn needs feeding quite a lot, as they are growing sooo much in that first 6 weeks. So 3 1/2 hours is too long for him to last. Also, they get thirsty just like us, so sometimes top ups are a must. (just like breastfed babies) - but not water, I never offered just water alone until after 3 months.

i agree with everyone else, feed every 2 - 3 hourly either breast or bottle as they have small tummy's and digest quickly. Stay away from water and farex could make baby sick.
