i agree with everyone else, feed every 2 - 3 hourly either breast or bottle as they have small tummy's and digest quickly. Stay away from water and farex could make baby sick.

i was also thinking 4 hrly is a long time for such a little bub. more like 3hrly (or even less sometimes).

Stay away from any solids until after 5 months hun :)

My DS started on formula fulltime at 4 weeks, and he was on 150mls every 2-3 hours, and then by 2 months(ish) was having 200mls every 3 hours.

A newborn needs feeding quite a lot, as they are growing sooo much in that first 6 weeks. So 3 1/2 hours is too long for him to last. Also, they get thirsty just like us, so sometimes top ups are a must. (just like breastfed babies) - but not water, I never offered just water alone until after 3 months.

Farex isn't recommended for babies under 4 months, because their digestive system isn't developed enough to digest it. It may be worth feeding him more often instead? I wouldn't be offering solids of any sort until 5 months but thats just me. I also wouldn't be offering water to a 2 week old baby. I would just keep increasing his volumes as and when he needs as you will find it will plateau eventually anyway.

Have you spoken to your Mw about his feeding? What does she think?

Being FF it's such a guessing game at times with feeds as with BF'ing you have no idea how much they are taking at a time and there is no need for 'making extra'! Hopefully he will take a 150ml bottle in one go! Maybe instead of only doing 100mls, do 150 and see if he will take it. I always make 50ml over what DS drinks as sometimes he might have an extra 20 or 30ml if he's extra hungry. Yeah I would say the same thing, would he take 150mls at his usual feed times?

My DS was FF from 2 weeks on and he was always a hungry baby and only now is he starting to even out his feeds and stay fuller for longer.

Hi Ladies

Our little boy is comming up 2 weeks old this Tuesday, he was bottle fed right from the start on the Nurture formula, when he was around 4-5 days old he was already having 100mls, every 3 and a half hours. Since then he has started to need a top up of 50mls before an hour after each feed, sometimes he goes to 4 hours between feeds but mostly 3 and a half hours. We have put him on the Nurture formula for Hungry babies now and it still dosnt seem to satisfy him, he's still drinking 100mls every 3 and a half hours and then a top up of 50mls about 45 mins after each feed, apart from at night.
