Hey Claire,
I'm Nikki, and I used to be a teen mum (well, for a month!) and I am from Rotorua originally - head back up there now and again as Mum still lives there.
Did you go to school in Vegas?
Who is your midwife?

Oh yeah, more questions -
Have you been to an antenatal course?
There is a one day teen preggo course run which is quite good... you get to meet a few other young preggo mamas. I was quite a lot older than many of them there so didn't really make any friends but it was good anyway.

One of the ladies at my coffee group is only 17, so don't feel like you can't make friends with us oldies.

I was a teen mum too. Ask at your local plunket for any young mums groups I used to go to one and have just started up another one so if theres none you could always start one?

Well I was only 19 when I had Keira, I'm 21 now (almost 22 ) and on to my second. I guess thats close enough. I have always felt a lot older than most teen mums (They have them really young around here) but a lot younger than the rest.

Thanks girls. I felt really alone and was feeling that "im the only teen mum 2 b" at the moment. It was horrible at antenatal classes as all the other parents to be were in their mid to late 20's

If you get in touch with Carolyn Fitch at the Rotovegas health centre - she might be able to put you in touch with a young mums group. She was my midwife and I know she takes on a lot of younger clients (as well as being the clinic midwife at Rotovegas)
Worth a try

I was 19 when i was pregnant with C ,and it wasnt so bad when i was pregnant cos I was at Bethany ,which is a place for young mums, but when i went out with her after she was born it was difficult, because I might have been 19 but i look young, so I looked about 14, and i didnt have a partner, and the looks I would get sometimes , woah! you would think I had committed some crime!
But i decided if they werent going to change their attitudes, i would change mine and get a stronger back bone and walk proud with my beautiful daughter ,knowing that im doing the best job i can do

I was only JUST 16 when I had my first 14 years ago & really hope that attitudes have changed since then - OMG some of the staff at the hospital at her birth & after when she was admitted for other issues were ... ummm .... well... the only words that i can think of to describe them shouldn't really be posted here!!!

i'm not quite a teen mum, but not too far off. I was 19 almost 20 when i got married, (4 days of it actually) and then got pregnant and had V when i was 21. all the other people in our antenatal class were in their 30's! i only have one friend who is a young mum, and she is three years older than me. so if you will allow me, i'd like to get to know you. i'm not a teen as i said, but not far off it. Alia, i didn't realise you were a young mummy too.
