Does anyone elses baby have a Tongue tie?

Henry was born with a tongue tie but we had it clipped. He didnt cry or anything apparently it doesnt have any nerves so aside from them maybe being upset because someones hands are in their mouth it doesnt hurt. Henry's was affecting breastfeeding just after birth so they offered to clip it (used a pair of sterile sissors). Dont really know much about it in older babies though sorry.

Spencer was born with a tongue tie, his has grown out now. I wouldn't have thought a 6 month old has much speech to be impaired

Our wee girl was born with tounge tie too, it was noticed at 8 days old as she wasn't latching therefor poor we thing was starving. Her was snipped and I remember the doc saying depending on how bad they were it could def affect speech later on. Our girls one was apparently quite bad.

Seems like such a mean thing to be born with doesn't it!

Yup Caden has a small one, it made breastfeeding very hard as he couldnt stay latched well.
The doctor looked at it and said cadens is very mild and is unlikely to effect his speech, he has only just started saying a few words, and he sounds fine...he says dad and mum and nan..and bub etc.

Also, he can still poke his tounge out quite far and it moves around in his mouth well, so we arnt worried about it at the moment, when he starts speaking proeprly we will know if its effecting his speech and the dr said in that case they can nick it with a knife to fix it, he said it doesnt hurt as its a tiny wee nick, but he has told us at this stage if caden is fine, leave it be.

I swear Rhyley was (is?) tongue tied as he has a heart shape at the tip and when we were breast feeding he would take up to 15 minutes to latch on (till we worked out a better way that worked for us both)
But he speaks very well and very understandable. He does dribble a bit when having a lollie pop or ice cream he makes a mess (although most 2 and half year olds probably do)
i am not too worried about it now but would of made BF alot easier if it had been fixed then (and one of the reasons we stopped it)

Tongue ties usually don't effect speech production unless they are VERY restrictive and are often not clipped these days as it's not necessary. How do you feel her speech is being impaired by it?
