Topic: Cleaning Little boy parts Posted: 26 December 2008 at 9:33pm |
Hi there, I was just wondering about cleaning little boy parts. I've noticed that my son is getting red and the skin looks like it's peeling right by his scrotum. I was using pams baby wipes as I've got 2 other children in nappies also so I was thinking maybe the wipes were irritating him so I got him some huggies non scented wipes. Apart from sunbathing his privates is there any cream or powders that are really good? Any info would be much appreciated...

I wouldn't worry for now... he's only still such a wee man.. let things settle down, and maybe when you have your next mw appt you can mention it too her...
I didn't put anything near my boy's bits until they were older, as I figured it was their bodies adjusting to life outside....
Of course if it's really red, you could try cornflour just sprinkled into his nappy...

Aw poor little guy. I would suggest using cloth wipes or cotton wool with just water for a little bit in case the wipes are causing irritation, and if possible let him air dry before putting his nappy back on.
I've used sudocream a couple of times and found that quite affective.

What she said I just used water and gave heaps of nappy free (while they cant move to places you dont know about). Sudocream or bepanthan has solved ANY rash we have ever had.

Its a bit of a pain but I used cotton wool pads and water for first 6 weeks to avoid any irritations. Hayden got red and spotty with any wipes, even the ones they said were fragrance free etc they still have loads of chemicals in them. We use Clearly Herbal Natural Baby Wipes now and they are FAB never had a single upset bum using them but not sure if you can get them in NZ.

I used the blue J & J cloths you buy at the supermarket and water for the first 8 weeks or so, thats what my MW recommeneded, now I used the pams fragrance free ones and find they are better than the huggies etc. Also try curash powder, that is really good for rashes etc.

My MW told me to use the J&J nappy liners and warm water to wipe cadens bottom and stuff for the first few months cos their skin is so deelicate.
Pams wipes made Cadens bottom red raw and so did huggies so we now use J&J Skincare wipes and he has been good apart from when he is teething(like now) and he gets a wicked nappy rash so we go back tot he J&J nappy liners and warm water.
I wouldnt use anything on his boy bits just gently wipe the outside with the warm water and leave it be, it will come right, Cadens went like that for a day or two and came right on its own.

LOADS of nappy free time.............and cotton nappies if you can use them........heaps of nappy changes and baths.......this sounds like my boy and it ended up to be fungal which went away within a few days with cream but everyone has given good advice.......PS DONT use powder until there at least 1yr old............to many bad chemicals especially down those parts............my boy has only just started using powder............i know our mothers use to use it but there has been tests since then.

When he was really little we didnt use anything on his bottom, except zinc and castor oil cream, and wiped it with warm cloths, their skin is so sensitive huh!

We had a few little issues like that too. I found that if I used J & J nappy liners (even cut in half) soaked in tepid water that it healed up pretty quickly too. The hospital I was at use these too (or similar disposable gause) instead of baby wipes. Eventually I discovered that the Huggies unscented baby wipes were the best to use. They are thicker, softer and dont irritate the skin. If things got too bad I also used Sudocrem. They do settle down eventually. Also found that male doctors were very understanding when it came to little boys bits!
