When is it okay to start using one of the light-weight umbrella strollers?

My DD has great head control, but cannot sit up unassisted.

I am fed up of lugging the huge travel-system buggy around every time i want to go out and am keen to be able to use the umbrella style, but need to know when it will be suitable . . .

thanks

I would have though that the bub would need to be able to sit up unassisted ... I would use an umbrella stroller with Issy now, but probably wouldnt have considered it until she was able to sit up unaided.

does your stroller recline at all? we have been using ours since bubs was four mnths he had great head control. but ours reclines to five dif positions and has a 5point harness. id try her in it at home and see what you think.

So while i'm on the subject - any recommendations? Main point is i want one that will fold down nice and small (as well as being comfy fo DD )

i just have a cheapie from the warehouse but it doesn't recline so i didn't use that until the kids were about 8-9mths old.
if you want an umbrella one, i'd definately get one that reclines...i think they are all basically the same, just depends on what price you want to pay

Hey I've been looking at these cause I want one for when we go overseas, and if they recline they usually are fine from 3 months, some maclaren ones are from birth.

I have a childcare umberalla and it lays back. I have only ever used this from day one. So if it is able to recline its fine. Otherwise I would wait for good sitting first.

I have a stroller, the boys can't sit up by themselves yet, but they have great head control and have been using it for the last couple of months, and they actually enjoy sitting up, I think it's great for them!!
So my answer would be, give it a shot!! you'll know if baby doesn't like it!

It might depend on just how lightweight you want to go? I have just bought the lightest weight Maclaren (the Volo) and it says to use from 6 months - I probably wouldn't have wanted Clara in it much earlier but I think their slightly heavier and more robust models go from birth onwards.

Hi, we got given an evenflo stroller and I have been using it for about 6 weeks and it is SO much easier! Hayley isnt quite sitting up completely by herself (will do for a couple of minutes) but she is fine. she has always had great head control.

We bort a jolly jumper one from farmers it was $80 and it reclines to 3 different postions but not completely flat, it's brilliant. I hardly use our 3 wheeler anymore.
Ryan isn't sitting very well at all. but in the stroller he's fine and sleeps well in it too.
