Hi all, DD is 2 and has temp of 38 (under the arm)
I can't find any info on what is considered a high temp....anyone know?

usually i would say anything over 37.5 is considered high... so certainly 38 is getting up there.. might be time for some pamol maybe.

I've always worked by the rule anything over 38.5 means off to the doc.
Definitely agree with Janine too, pamol for temps over 37.5

sweet, thanks ladies, gave her some pamol at 5 and has already dropped to 37.7.
I just wasn't sure if it was doc time or if pamol would be enough.
Will keep an eye on her of course but you have both reassured me.

oh bugger, since I posted last we have had 2 massive up-chucks, poor little girl.
Don't you hate it when your little ones are sick, there is so little you can do for them.
She is tucked up in bed now so fingers crossed she isn't sick again during the night

Healthline told me this (and therefore take it if you like)
anything under 39 - take pamol and if there is a drop then no doctor is necessary (this is in the mid of the night - day doctor is recommended)
antyhing over 40 - doctor day or night
anything under 39 - given pamol and doesn't drop - monitor for six hours.
I found healthline to genreally be crap so I ignored this, but thats what I was told.

Totally agree with that...I remember ringing them when Alyssa was younger and expecting to speak to a nurse who knew what she was talking about...instead I had some lady who kept reading passages from the "thriving under 5" book even though I kept saying I already had the book in front of me... so annoying..

When Erin had a temp of 39.2 I whizzed her off to the GP as fast as I could - luckily it was during the day !

39 is my 'cut off' when I take them to the doc, but a bit of it is judgement too. The other day Sienna was 38.6 at 10.30pm so I decided to take her to the after hours doc to avoid a middle of the night trip if it didn't drop. It ended up being a loooong night at Starship (long story, stupid bloody kidney!) but turned out just to be a virus.
But technically anything over 37 degrees is a fever, altho between 37-38 degrees is considered low grade. If it gets to 40 you start heading into febrile seizure territory in susceptible kids so thats why I use 39 as my 'cut off'.

gezz, I think 10.30 is the middle of the night! Superhero Mums with twins and more eh!
Anyway, Cailin got through the night with no vomitting and temp is normal today. She didn't have the best of sleeps and is grizzly this morning but fingers crossed what ever it was yesterday that sparked her off is on its way out already

Piper had a temp of 39.2 last weekend nearly whisked her to the weekend doc but temp started to drop after some pamol and a strip of some clothes but I did panic as I had never seen her temp that high
