Topic: Vitex advice Posted: 19 August 2009 at 3:11pm |
Today I started taking Vitex to help get my periods all sorted. I've had one period since I gave birth 13months ago (it was about 6weeks ago) but I now need to get things regular so we can get pregnant again asap.
Last week my husband (whos only 26) was diagnosed with having a brain tumour and will have radiation as treatment. We will see the specialist on Friday to discuss side effects and possibility of it effecting his swimmers.I know it is different ends of his body but we dont want to risk anything going wrong with number two because of the treatment.
I'm just wondering if anyone has had success taking it and how long did it take for everything to sort itself out. The herbalist told me it can take 3-6 months to work properly.
If anyone has any other ideas as what else could help I would be most appreciated. thanks

Oh my gosh, I am so sorry to hear about your DH, big hugs to you.
are you taking the tincture? or the pills? the tincture is ment to work faster, and everything i have read says that it will start working within 3 months. Im not sure what else to help regulate your cycles, are you still breastfeeding? They say that breastfeeding can affect ovulation and your cycles?
Good luck!

I think the weaning would help the most, and if you start on the Vitex (I know, doesnt it just taste foul!) then hopefully your cycle will be back on track as soon as possible.

thanks Emmi. Its been difficult talking about this coz we have only told close family and even some of his bros dont know yet. I havent really had anyone to talk to about it either and now we have this to worry about too. We are pretty calm about it all but just want this baby soooo bad. Its the only thing we cant control. Bloody fertility!!!
Its been nice being able to get advice from people on here as everyone is sooo helpful and full of good ideas.

Well if you ever need to talk feel free, Im stuck at home for the next few weeks recovering from surgery on my knee, so am bored! My DH is the same age as yours, 26. It must be horrible. You are so amazing for being so calm about it all, I would be a mess!

So sorry to hear about DH.
I am in similar situation as you in regards to no periods, taking vitex and bf-ing once per day (if that). I haven't had any period though, and my bub is now 18 months.
I think that if you wean fully periods will become regular. I know this is hard to do, I am really struggling with it as DS is so insisitent sometimes.
Good luck - also try reading 'Taking Charge of Your Fertility' by Toni Weschler. I have found it REALLY helpful in understanding my fertility. Has lots of good ideas about diet, timing, and awareness
