I've been lurking for a while and now I actually have a question!

Me and my husband have started trying for a baby and I am after some advice. Once you have done the deed is it better to lay there for a while? If you get up and go to the toilet are you reducing your changes of becoming pregnant?

It seems strange that I actually do not know my body well enough to know that if I go to the toilet afterwards am I getting rid of the sperm.

I think you are meant to put something under you bum, to help them swim in the right direction lol.

I either put a pillow under my bum, or i put my legs up on headboard. I normally stay like that for at least 20 minutes

Im not sure if going to the toilet straight away would prevent you getting pregnant, but i guess you would be loosing alot of sperm doing it, so it would decrease your chances

I never put my legs up the wall, pillow under bum etc. I think sometimes I lay down for a while afterwards, sometimes went straight to the toilet depending on how I was feeling at the time. With each of the boys we got pg in our 2nd mth of trying.
So I am not sure that it really matters about staying put or legs up the all etc. But that is my personal experience
Good luck TTC
Lindsey

Ahh, you will find many people do different things and haven't different opinions on this one!
I personally try to avoid going to the toilet afterwards. I know that the little spermies shoot up there so damn fast it's unlikely that going for a pee afterwards will flush them out, BUT I just feel like it does anyway, lol. I think it depends on how long it takes to get UTD as to what someone is willing to try/do to help the process

I like to chill for a bit before getting up to go to the toilet, but the girls are right, it doesnt matter cos the little swimmers get to where they need to go pretty fast

Good luck with your TTC journey.

Fertility Associates told me that it propping your legs up did not increase chance of conception because if the spermies don't make it through the cervix at the moment of ejaculation they are unlikely to make it their afterward.

There are some who swear by keeping their legs up afterwards though, I used to despite the advice given by Fertility Associates "just in case" it did the trick.

*Perhaps TMI Alert*!

I'd be interested to hear what others think of this, but I've heard that if the female orgasm's soon after the male then that helps the swimmers get where they need to go.

I got pregnant first time with this

*Fingers crossed it works like that second time*!!!!!!

I've heard it's to do with the uterus contracting and that helps the swimmers travel where they to go...
(I can't remember where I first heard it, but the female orgasm was apparantly biologically designed for that fact, It's not just for fun)

..........and hey - If it doesn't work at least you'll have fun trying

Thanks for the replies. I think that I will do the pillow under the bum/ legs up the wall just so I feel like I'm doing something that ''might" increase our chances.

I;ve heard the orgasm thingy to, though best if after he does (the muscle contraction helps them move up faster!)
