Hi, just wanted to let expecting parents know that Johnsonville Plunket are now running Antenatal Classes from their centre. The course consist of two parts: 1) The Antenatal course which will: • Give expecting parents the opportunity to meet other expecting parents, therefore connecting parents and allowing them to build a support framework, especially when no family support is available locally • Inform expecting parents of the essential information required to prepare them for the birthing process • Teach expecting parents the practical aspects of caring for your baby once the baby is born, including safe sleeping practises, breastfeeding, changing nappies etc. • Introduce guess speakers on specific topics e.g. Post Natal Depression, Volunteering
2) Plunket Your New Baby Parenting Education Course which will: • Prepare expecting parents for the adjustments to having a new baby, changes and challenges that the new baby will bring, including the parental relationship • Teach the importance of developing the relationship with their baby to foster a secure attachment • Teach expecting parents the typical characteristics and needs of babies in the first six weeks of life • Show expecting parents the available resources that can assist them when baby is born including Plunket’s wider services • Help expecting parents understand the key safety issues with having a new baby in the home
The latter is free of charge to anyone.
