Hi Dorothy thanks for today am looking forward to try your techniques to get Liam to sleep through the night. i certainly don't have any problems usually with him sleeping during the night but don't want it to become a habit of waking as will go back to work in a few months. Can you please provide a daily meal plan sample for him. He doesn't have any allergies that I have discovered as yet and is a good eater. Liam is 7 1/2 months old, bottle fed and 9.5kgs. Can you give me an idea of portion sizes aswell.
Thanks Wendy

Hi Dorothy, I am about to start solids with my daughter. She is a breast feed baby. How do I go about reducing the calories she gets from Breast milk to increasing the amount of calories in the form of solids? Regards Jules.

Hi Dorothy Thank you so much for the session on Monday. It was great to listen to your thoughts. I am about to change Will from Breast feeding to Formula and wondered which formula you recommended. He is 8 1/2 months old. Eats solids well. Another thing is recently Will was sick and I found it a real challenge. When he was sick he went off his solids and woke up in the night. In this situation do you think its OK to give milk during the night or is it important to stay consistent about not feeding during the night? I know fluids are important when sick but not sure if necessary through night. I am sure there will be a next time of being sick so would be good to know how to handle it. Will has slept through the night since Monday so we are back on track!! Thank you and Thank you to Oh Baby Kim

Hi
Do you have any suggestions for my 8week old who hates tummy time (on his tummy on the ground) - each time I try when he is happy and content, it takes about 20secs for him to start screaming and work himself up. However he is happy with lying on my tummy when I am on a slight angle.
Thanks

Hi Wendy Portion sizes do depend on the baby, but I would suggest around 120 - 150ml of vegetables and say 3 tablespoons of cereal with a little fruit for breakfast. Here is a menu planner for you SuggestedMenuon_FullDiet.pdf

hi Jules At the beginning you are not looking towards reducing her calories from breast milk but what will happen is once she starts eating the milk feeds you offer with her meals will be smaller than normal. As long as you are mixing her solids (cereal) with breast milk then this is not an issue. The way to increase her calories in the form of solids is by offering solids before milk, however I must point out that MOH and Plunket recommend that you offer milk before solids until they are 8 months old. In my experience I look at what the baby needs and offer solids accordingly. In my experience I find that when babies start solids (cereal mixed with milk) that they tend to get a renewed interest in their milk as the solids curb their hunger.

Hi I am wondering how tired he is before you are offering the feed. Is he eating solids. My suggestion would be when he wakes from his afternoon nap, do a full feed, then bath, then re feed and then bed. This will take approximately 2 to 2 1/2 hours from the time he wakes to the time he goes to bed. Also as he is five months old he is probably getting ready to do solids, so I would suggest starting with this feed and offering a cereal such as baby rice (wholemeal), millet, quinoa or oatmeal. Mix with milk so that he wont miss out of any nutrients and fat from his normal breast feed.

Hi Kim The formula I mentioned was NanHA and you would start with stage 2. Other formulas to look at are the S26 Gold range as well.
When a baby is sick they need two nutrients sleep and food. I encourage my babies to sleep well during the night and resettle as sleep will help heal. They will drink and eat during the day when they are feeling better. It can be quite difficult to stop feeding a baby overnight. Remember milk is food.
Pleased Will is back sleeping through the night

Hi Ladies Thank you for all your questions and hopefully the answers will help you. It was lovely to meet you all at the OHBaby Coffee Catchup.
Remember before you do anything STOP, THINK, and ACT – work out what you are doing, why you are doing, and what you are trying to accomplish and then act.
Remember YOU are the baby’s mum and so listen to your heart and instinct. Yes, we all don’t do it by the book, or get it right the first time, but you need to make ‘mistakes’ to get it right for you. It’s a time of learning a little person’s personality and figuring out what works for your home life.
If you have the time I would love to see you pop over to http://www.facebook.com/BabyWithin and 'like' it. You can then keep up with information that I post from time to time or hear from other mothers who write on the wall.
Please remember as a parent or carer that you should understand and acknowledge that Dorothy is NOT a licensed medical doctor or other licensed medical provider and the information that I share with you has come from experience and working with numerous families and babies and toddlers
